If you would be doing SEO back in 2008 and nearby it, chances are pretty high that you would have been able to manipulate search results easily. The reason is simple, search engines were not that efficient, they used to look at similar search queries on the Page, and measured number of links as upvotes being done by other websites.

Google introduced Panda and Penguin as addition to their algorithm,
websites involved with in creating webpages unnecessarily and
manipulating results with the help of links, had been slapped, pushed
back down and even de-indexed. Old Key-players like Hub Pages, most of
the article websites and forums got penalized from these algorithmic
changes.
Is it Right Time to Strategize your SEO Again?
Yes, if you are still involved with over-optimizing your website and getting massive link-backs from useless websites, then you should probably stop right now. Every Study proves that the old SEO things (which worked primarily well regarding rankings) are not performing to that much extent. I am referring out some of the elements like:- URL Naming
- Title Tag
- H1 Tag
- Exact keyword frequency in Body Text
- Commercial terms as Alt Tags on Images
- And even Links.

Absolutely not, and it will not be! The thing is – The way we see area of optimizations, will surely need to be re-analyzed and re-optimized. Time has gone when low-hanging fruits of link building used to work well. If you leave the footprint of your optimization, you will be caught by machines. Profile Links from Forums, author bio links from articles and guest blogs, 2-way linking and Directories, these all leave a pattern signal and read my words, it’s not too complicated for Google to analyze the link patterns and punish you for the work you did.
Now you need to work really hard to earn a link back. They can’t be built (The ones which will have the power to rank you higher). And why someone will link you out? Of-course he or she will not until you’ve authority or expertise in your niche. This authority can be measured based on your domain’s value, your publications, Interviews, social activities, buzz around your Brand and lots of ways.
OK, but What We Need to Do Now?
Everything but Brand oriented! SEO is more about the reputation of your Brand/Client. We will still run behind mentions, link backs but not the way, we used to do it years back. I mean no reciprocal links, no link farms, no PBN – Say clearly NO. Produce something outstanding in your niche, look at the problems people are facing and write about the solutions. Spread it! Many ways, leverage the power of influencers. That’s all about PR. Once you get something new and amazing on the table, people will talk about you, will mention you and the best part, will link you.
