How does the Blinkist Help Those with Busy Lifestyle?

by John Smith Consultant

We always hear about 'curling up with a good book' on chilly winter nights. That's usually accompanied with a mug of hot chocolate. But honestly, how many of us have that leisure time to spare, no matter how much we love reading? With today's busy world, we're considered lucky if we can just read a couple of pages of our favorite books. A couple of pages every day will take you forever to finish just one book. So, here comes the Blinkist app.

What is the Blinkist app?

In essence, it's a book summary app that gives you the main points of a book in about, what should be, a 15 minute read. Summaries are around 15 pages. It's meant for people always on the go, where they can carry their own personal, little library on their Android or iPhone. You can also use it on your laptop since it's a web app. The team of Blinkist read every book they have and give you the core information for you to read in a quick summary. You have a choice of more than 2000 books that cover about 20 different topics. Topics range from anything to Business and Management to Sex and Relationships. Their focus is on non-fictional books. It’s always a good idea to look into reviews, you can check out Self Development Secrets's review on Blinkist as a starting point.

So what's different about Blinkist?

Blinklist holds a lot of substance than most of us are aware of. The fact that many of our lives are so fast paced in this day in age is something that they certainly haven’t overlooked when making this app.

  • First off, there are about 10 new titles added weekly. So, there's no way not to find something that interests you and no way to finish one book, without finding another interesting read for you right away.

  • Second, you can also get an audio version of a summary. So you can listen while you shop, walk, at the gym, washing dishes, or whatever you're doing is preventing you from reading. Audio books are the new craze, because they add a new dimension to books that were not available before. You can get engrossed in the different characters with different accents and voices, there’s more drama, and it’s something you can do at pretty much any time of day without having to lift a finger.

  • Third, you also get personalized recommendations based on the types of books you read. This keeps you updated on new books coming out in topics that interest you, as well as older classic books that you never had the time to read before.

  • Fourth, the books are not just chosen at random. Each team member who reads the book to summarize knows about the subject, so is able to choose the best picks from the thousands of books that are published every year.

Subscribe anyone?

Blinkist has recently added monthly and yearly plans. You do get a free 7-day free trial so you can check it out first. There is a free membership, but that only allows you one book per day that is chosen for you; something like the meal of the day.

Remember that these are only summaries that will give you the gist of a book. If you like a book and want to learn more about the subject, Blinkist reading will help you decide whether you should buy the entire book or not. It will also help you to decide to not buy a book that you thought would be better. So it’s a win win situation regardless!
