by Priya Goel Education

Does chess really improve creativity among children? Creativity can be defined as an ability to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives or anything that can be used to find solutions to any problems. Of course, there might be a different perspective on the topic among people who regularly practice chess and who are not so familiar with the famous board game. However, chess being one of the most complex and difficult board games ever invented, it really has tremendous benefits among children who play the game on a daily basis. Many studies across the world have shown that the kids who practice the board game on regular intervals develop a creative mindset over time.

The board game is not something just to be categorized as a game but a creative playboard that explores a kid’s innovation and creativity as well. Here are some key takeaways that chess gives its practitioners.

               Boosts Innovation

Kids who develop a taste towards the popular board game and have a regular practice of it are found to be more innovative. The game makes a child more innovative and creative. For example Akshay, an 18 year old college going student from Kerala. He had been interested in board games since his childhood. However, more than offline, school going, Akshay used to play chess online. Daily practice of online chess made him more innovative, he started to think creatively and wanted to do different things, he developed interest towards many activities like gardening,Sketching, public speaking and more. Each day he started being more smart and happy. Akshay now also manages to play chess online and regularly learns chess online through grasping best chess lessons. He currently wishes to master the board game and continues to find out the best chess strategies online and offline. Online chess routine changed his life and gave a better direction to it.

               Builds Character

While a kid improves his creativity skill and a flair towards the game, his or her character develops alongside. The characteristic influence of the game has been always recognized widely. Have you heard about Abhimanyu Mishra, The young grandmaster? He is a notable example with a calm and cool character who has been practicing the board game from a very young age. Abhimanyu’s father Hemant Mishra wanted his child to be provided with something that engages his child and at the same time gives him some life lessons. That’s when Mr.Hemant started promoting Abhimanyu with the famous board game. From the age of 2 his parents had been encouraging him to play chess and this has helped to build the calm and gentle behaviour of Abhimanyu that’s appreciated by everyone. Abhimanyu still finds time to refresh himself in his busy academic and game schedule by practising the board game through online chess lessons.

               Makes Kids Imaginative

Kids become more imaginative along with being creative. Have you ever noticed the children in your circle who are fond of the game?

If not, it is time to observe. They are highly imaginative compared to other school going kids. They undoubtedly think out of the box. The famous writer Leo Tolstoy, who was extremely fond of the board game, had been practicing and playing chess since his childhood. He himself had stated that his love towards playing the famous board game has made him think out of the box and to write creatively. The point is adding chess as a game, hobby etc in your routine sharpens the brain which enables kids to think instead of making basic decisions.

                Improves Visualization

Visualization is the only way in chess by which we could look into the future over the chessboard. How often has it happened to you that you made a move and then realized that it was a mistake? Kids gradually develop an ability to visualize each and every matter around them. This helps them to visualize solutions and alternatives while sorting out certain tasks. Regular online chess sessions improve his focus. Daily live chess classes help to visualize things. And how is that possible ? When you become very good at visualization, everything becomes clearer. This is why you will also experience your proficiency in other areas naturally following after developing strong visualization skills. It makes you well aware about situations and places
