Music isn’t confined to a particular religion, caste, nationality or language, that’s why music is such as vital medium connecting us to god. Music is a form of expression of anything an individual composing or writing music feel. Evidently, there are multiple genres of music and undoubtedly music is a vast subject to explore. To what extent do I know or presume, there is no single soul on this globe who doesn’t listen to music, keeping aside the state of liking it or not. So as I mentioned earlier, music has its own power and influence over people. It can be any genre of music, it's influential in ether way. 


Moreover, specifically, devotional music is something that is mysteriously powerful and peaceful. Devotees all around the world, compose, write, sing or chant devotional music. Devotional music is a form of expression of compassion, and love for the almighty. It helps develop a sense of generosity and harmony in one’s life. The lyrics of devotional songs hold a sumptuous meaning behind them, that could be the answer to the purpose of life. 


Devotional music in Hindu traditions is termed Bhajans. Bhajans are standardised as - 

“Bhajan refers to any devotional song with a religious theme or spiritual ideas, specifically among Indian religions, in any language. The term bhajanam (Sanskrit: भजनम्) means reverence and originates from the root word bhaj (Sanskrit: भज्), which means to revere, as in 'Bhaja Govindam' (Revere Govinda). The term bhajan also means sharing.


The term 'bhajan' is also commonly used to refer to a group event, with one or more lead singers, accompanied by music, and sometimes dancing. Normally, bhajans are accompanied by percussion instruments such as tabla, dholak or a tambourine. Handheld small cymbals (kartals) are also commonly used to maintain the beat. A bhajan may be sung in a temple, in a home, under a tree in the open, near a riverbank or in a place of historic significance.”
