There are more than a billion individuals with incapacities in the world that is one in seven individuals. An expected 70 per cent of this individual have non-apparent incapacities, which means they go largely unnoticed and hence are not often spoken. Every one of us will face some type of incapacity at some point in our lives, be it temporary, permanent, or situational.

Technology can empower the individual to achieve more, help strengthen opportunities, education and make the workplace more inclusive and inviting for the individual with disabilities. And with more than one billion people with disabilities in the world, Microsoft believes inclusion and accessibility are essential to carry on our mission to empower every organization and every individual on the planet to achieve more, says Jenny Lay-Flurrie, Chief Accessibility Officer at Microsoft.

To improve the accessibility apply Artificial Intelligence

We believe that AI can be a force multiplier in unlocking solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing individuals with disabilities. We’re applying AI abilities to empower and assist individuals with disabilities, helping make their workplace and everyday life more inclusive.

Here’s a look at some of our AI-enabled services, features, and apps that are helping the individual with disabilities unlock their potential.

Intelligent Alternative Text feature uses image recognition to describe images in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint.

Intelligent Alternate Text in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint

While alternative text started mainly as an attribute in HTML code to offer image context to search engine flatterers helping them index an image properly, we are leveraging AI to make visual content more accessible for an individual with visual impairments. Using the same technology that powers PowerPoint’s Designer feature, Microsoft Computer Vision Cognitive Service, individuals can now get the automatic alternative text for images in both Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.

Being a marketer, one thing that you cannot live without is the presence of visual content, in terms of static images and motion graphics. In the daily routine, one of the biggest challenges is graphics and inferring images for what they are and how they will end up.
