How africans prefer Foreign dogs over their local dogs

by Chuks Ineh Writer
This is not a common topic that writers may approach, even Anas the investigative journalist will ignore this important issue. It is up to you the reader to determine the truth in this matter.
Recently the number of dog food shop has increased, even with the presence of bigger retail shops like game, Max Mart, Koala etc, dog foods and toys are sold and many are buying.
Ask yourself, when was the last time you bought any of those goodies for an African dog? Never! In fact to buy a common neck chain for an African dog is the last thing you can do. That is the reason you see plenty of African or so called local dogs congregate on the streets. Free forever to roam, to hustle and of course to replenish the earth.
I was once living at Sakora and every night, the dogs would gather in front of my fence less house. About 13 of them will come, chill & hangout but will never bother about the security of anyone. In the first place, no one cared about their security so they won’t bark during threats or attacks.
Since dogs remain Man’s best friend, the ones who grew up on the street become so casual with all that it will be difficult to know who is a bad man.
So my people, the dogs were all in front of my house where I parked my motorbike, before their very eyes a thief or thieves came and took it away. They did not bother!

God has made us Africans with unique culture, in many things do we offend the Creator when we disregard his gifts to us. Our preference to foreign dogs to our local dogs is a concern. Bring out a local puppy on the road for sale and you will regret your life, nobody wants it.

There is this story of an American couple who came down to Ghana for the first time, when the saw some homeless dogs not understanding that almost all are homeless, took in two lucky dogs. Without segregation trained the dogs, took good care of them like the Good Samaritan, when people later saw the dogs, it was hard to notice them as street local dogs. Many assumed they were foreign dogs.

We have also witnessed how a nice beautiful American or foreign dogs left behind here for one reason or the other turn to hustler, looking dirty and hungry. Thus one can deduce that the treatment of dogs is an individual thing. He who is nice to a dog is nice whether local or international.

What can be done to treat local dogs with respect and affection?
Municipal authority should take care of dogs on the street. When people realize that wandering dogs will be seized by government, it will at least motivate them to buy chain or even build a cage for it. The dog will become a home pet, other treatments will follow.

Let us as Africans appreciate our own things, whatever we have is the best and there is no alternative. Even our local dogs are considerate of our pocket and will eat whatever you eat. How much more when you spoil it with packed food, that dog will bark to warn evil people to beware.
