A sincere attractive smile is what sometimes gives us an edge over other people in life. After visiting my cosmetic dentist in Houston, Texas, I was amazed at the changes that he did to my overall dental well-being and looks. This was to be later affirmed when I got a job at one of the big audit firms overseas (PWC, Deloitte, E&Y and KPMG), won’t say which. I am not saying that a smile in entirety won me the job but it played a big role in getting the job. How did this work?

Job Interview Smile

1. A Good Smile Sets the Mood

Once I got into the panel in the 4th stage of the interview where you meet with the panelists I was able to strategically use the power of a good smile. The atmosphere was tense and dull. I guess the panelists were tired, but on entering the room and smiling just a little bit most of their faces were lit up and everything from there was a chit-chat series of questions. One of the questions that the smile scored marks on was “Why do you want to work for the company?” I was not pretty sure how to answer and I started with a smile-that which shows you’re really enthusiastic about working for that company. I was able to convince the panel why I wanted to work for the company. I overheard one of the panelists say “He had a good combination of words and non-verbal cues especially the smile!”

2. A Good Smile Shows That You Will Work Well with the Team Members

Most employers want someone with a combination of both the skills set and people skills. The people skills are important during team building. Once we were given tasks to perform as part of the assessment, I was amazed at how a good smile could pull support and participation from my colleagues in this exercise. A good smile will enable you to interact well in a teamwork assessment part of an interview, contributing to the overall success.

Last impression in an interview counts as much as the first impression- Ensuring that you close the interview with a glamorous smile is very important as it shows that you have enjoyed the interview and have really appreciated the time the panel took to interview you. This was the last part of my interview and I believe the glamorous smile I pulled convinced the panel to call me for a job offer.

After reading the article above I believe you will be convinced to work on your smile and apply it with tact in your next interview - with guaranteed results!
