Holidays to Antalya Take You to Fantastic Attractions

by Daisy Wilkinson Travel Guides

There are plenty of things worth exploring in Antalya, a Turkish coastal city located in the Anatolia region's south-west coast. You'll have a wonderful holiday in this part of the world visiting all its wonderful attractions. Antalya also acts as a base for many tourists for embarking on sightseeing tours that take them to some fascinating places beyond the city limits. Some of the attractions in the city and its surrounding areas are well-preserved ancient sites that give you a glimpse of the times when it was ruled by the great empires.

One of these places you can visit during your holidays to Antalya is Termessos, which is a well-preserved ruin of an ancient city, scattered across a rugged terrain. It is located at a distance of about 34 kilometres north-west of Antalya and provides fascinating views of the surrounding areas. Although many tourists prefer to visit the more appealing Aspendos, this site also gets quite a lot of visitors. However, if you wish to explore this site fully, you'll have to carry plenty of water and wear the right shoes. Among the most impressive places to visit at this particular site is an ancient theatre, which provides fabulous views of the Taurus Mountains.

Among the historic attractions you can explore during your cheap holidays to Antalya is the Old Town, also called 'Kaleici'. Upon taking a stroll on its cobblestone streets, it would appear as if this neighbourhood was specially made for taking long walks. You'll find some red-roofed mansions from the Ottoman era in this part of the city with walls painted in white and restored to near-perfection. While in the Old Town, you can also get the opportunity to explore its main square and an 18th-century mosque called the Tekeli Mehmet Pasa Mosque. You'll also come across souvenir shops, restaurants, boutique hotels, and art galleries while taking a walk in this neighbourhood.

Your cheap holidays to Antalya would also give you the chance to explore the Antalya Museum. It is a must-visit attraction for those who are interested in the history of Turkey. The excellent exhibits in this museum have been brought from the excavation sites spread across the coastal areas of Turkey. All the best finds from these sites have been displayed in such a way that the rich and rather complicated history of the country becomes easier to understand for the visitors. The large archaeological section in this museum features displays from the period spanning the Bronze Age to the times of Byzantine rule.

Don't miss the Konyaalti Beach, which is located on the eastern portion of the town centre. It features a beautiful stretch of sands set against the backdrop of magnificent mountains. In the summer season, this beach is thronged by locals and tourists alike. This beach has some excellent facilities and is an ideal place to unwind after some busy sightseeing schedules. You can also get the sun-loungers and umbrellas on rent. Located behind the beach is an elegant promenade lined with palm trees.

You can also visit the ancient site of Aspendos and know more about its intriguing history with the savings made while booking flights to Antalya from London.
