The Silver Age of Comics was a period of commercial success and artistic advancement in American comic books, especially in the superhero genre. After Golden Age of Comic Books that happened before, the silver age is between 1956-1970. The popularity of comic books about superheroes changed the trend of horror and World War II comics and took the larger shares on the market. However, there were many different allegations and links between juvenile delinquency and comic books, especially for those in horror and crime genre. In 1954 publishers made Comic Code Authority in order to regulate the content of comics.

Since the beginning of changes, publishers started implementing and introducing superhero stories, and that started with DC Comics and “The Flash” in 1956. In response to strong market demand, DC started publishing more superhero comics such Justice League of America and Marvel Comics started to follow that trend by making Fantastic Four.

During the Golden Age, comics were based on horror and war stories. After the CCA (Comics Code Authority) publisher introduced a new type of comics that changed the way public reacts on them.

DC

After Golden Age of comic went out, many popular characters from DC were re-booted however with some scientific and logical origin. They established characters in a Sci-Fi setting. That is the reason why The Flesh acquired super-speed after he was struck by lightning, and everything was explained through reality so that people could easily follow them and think of them as their role models. The storyline became different and more far-fetched in order to present the new potential of characters. Superman and Batman teamed up in order to save the universe many times and there are also minor characters that were popular and important such as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. Even though the Golden Age also contained Superman, Batman, Allan Scott, Jay Garrick, it still remained popular but were depicted into a fashion. Silver Age characters are more child-friendly than those that were made before.

Marvel

During the Silver Age Comics, Marvel started making different creative comics that became popular all over the world. The reason for that is because prominent comic maker Stan Lee was the main writer and editor. After Justice League of America became prominent and widely recognized, Marvel developed The Fantastic Four. However, when we compare it to other superheroes, these heroes were more human-like and self-doubting. That means that they were more human and therefore more realistic and reliable to readers. The best example is the character of Spider Man or Peter Parker, which was the first popular teenage hero that had all same problems as any other teens in the world.

Conclusion:

This particular era of changed the way we think about comic heroes because they are not only superheroes and different life. Throughout this era, superheroes became more human-like, with problems like any of us, which made them more realistic and therefore people were keen to read about their favorite heroes with human habits. There are many different comics that are worth too much, and it was followed by the Bronze Age of Comics.
