Modern technology has increased the life span and living conditions for humans. One of the most important revelations in modernizing our lives came in the form of protecting food. Multiple methods have been used over the centuries, and have improved greatly over time. The history of food packing has an interesting origination, which lead to the invention of newer more reliable food packaging systems. One noteworthy invention is known as bag closing equipment.

Ancient Preservation Methods

In pre-historic times, humans only contained enough intelligence to forage for food. Whatever was found had to immediately be consumed for fear of spoil. As time progressed, humans began harnessing agriculture, which lead to the desire to preserve food for longer amounts of time. Early civilizations in the Middle East used ceramic pots and animal skins to preserve food or liquids. Modified natural materials were utilized around the time of ancient Egyptians such as wood barrels and crates to further innovate the preservation process, as these methods were still rudimentary.

The expansion of humans over a wider area enabled the process of food packaging to expand to more innovative and cost effective levels. During Napoleon Bonaparte’s crusade to conquer the known world, tin cans and other pressurized methods were used to preserve food for long periods and sent to troops on the battlefield.

The last century has revealed a social revolution, which also dramatically increased food packaging innovation techniques. Trade with further countries became possible, as the opening of governments attitudes and people began to change. Food imported from China or Russia would have been impossible prior to this century however many developments today can fulfil this purpose.

Bag Closing Equipment

In the last 30 years, bag closing has become the most popular and effective innovative trend for the proper preservation of food. Bag closing equipment can be used safely for multiple types of food packaging needs. Popular for dry and wet substances, bag-closing equipment is approved for usage on foods for pets and humans.

Most resemble a sewing machine, and can be automated or operated by a human. Larger models are automated for high-level production output and generally used for food manufacturers. Smaller scale models can be handheld and portable. These are generally used by food packagers and sold to consumers. Single and double thread machines come in varying sizes depending on the closing material used. Bag closing equipment with foot pedals is great for these tougher materials. Burlap, cotton, plastic and other heavy-duty materials can be easily sealed without damaging or contaminating food substances. Needles come in adjustable lengths from 6.5-10 mm. Industrial standards usually suggest a length of 8mm for proper preservation of food or liquids. Tape or stitching methods are utilized to safely fill packages and securely transport sustenance to their final destination, ensuring quality and safety from contamination.

Modernizations of preservation practices have been inspired by many events in human evolution. From ceramic pots to animal skins, individuals searched for more effective ways to keep food safe and tasty. Bag closing machines, one of many innovations from the better part of this century, have taken care of this notion and have benefited consumers and companies worldwide.
