History of Artificial Turf

Sports, homes, and parks have an alternative to natural grass. 

Synthetic grass has been using by big parks, newly built homes, and many sports stadiums. But how artificial grass was first introduced to the world and what was it made of then. Let us dig deep some of its histories:

 

When it was invented?


Artificial turf gained close attention around the 1960s when it was first installed in the world’s the first multi-purpose stadium in Houston name Astrodome.

People believed that artificial turf was one of the best alternatives to natural grass. It was perfect but players were not comfortable playing on it. It needed to be more compatible for their run, dives when they roll the ball on the ground.

Number of injuries happened, players started complaining about it and the bounce of the ball was unpredictable.

There were few obstacles which was needed to be solved before using it somewhere across the world.

 



Second Time:


In 1969, the football match was played on the artificial turf. In the University of Pennsylvania, natural grass was replaced with synthetic grass.

Next year, a hockey match was played on it.

 

Revolution of Artificial Turf:


In 2001, FIFA approved synthetic turf to used for football matches. The football was the only game which used to play on the artificial turf. By the time, baseball, cricket, and tennis had started organizing their competition on the synthetic grass.

It used to design with plastic, the quality of the turfs was not that upgraded which it must be according to the games.

Revolutionary changes were made in the manufacturing of artificial turfs. The supplier had to designed sports surfaces according to the players’ demand and what game they play on it.

Hence, they had started using superior material to produce synthetic turfs. Using upgraded machines helped to improve artificial grass’s quality by the time.
