Hindu Wedding Vows And Significance For The Couple

Marriage is not a short term it requires much attention to complete process. A wedding is a significant part of our life to go through the various responsibilities or obligations towards life and family. Hindu marriage is called Vivah ceremony. Hindu weddings are closely attached to the cultural and religious beliefs and values. Matrimony is considered a very auspicious sacrament among Hindus. A Hindu bride wears a traditional heavy embroidered red color Saree or Lehenga with custom ornamented jewelry. And a Hindu groom wears traditional Sherwani or Coat Pant on the wedding day. Marriage contains a great significance for Hindus wherein they go about accomplishing sixteenth sacraments.  

 

During the Hindu wedding ceremonies the Hindu bride and groom’s houses are decorated with full of floral decorations, dazzling lights and colorful paintings on the wall, entrance, doors, roof and more. Marriage is the holy ceremony that doesn’t only conducted between the couple, but also between two families. This ceremony brings two families close in this new relationship. Hindu wedding ceremonies are all about vast rituals and customs that takes premium place to a blissful married life.  

 

The main sacrament of the Hindu wedding is Saptapadi wherein the couple rounds around the holy fire (Agni) and take vows in the mandap among a large number of assembled guests and relatives. The fifth vow is to provide an equal importance, love and care for our children.

An ultimate seventh step is to be a true and loving life partner in this holy relationship.

 

Therefore, these vows and promises are the basis of this new relationship for recalling the couple’s responsibilities in this relationship even if one is disavowed. At the moment these promises and vows encourage them to be faithful and loyal.
