Here’s The Difference Between Logo Design and Branding

by verve logic verve logic

People have heard the names like logo designs and branding but are always confused when these two are combined together. Even the logo creator of any renowned company gets confused when these terms emerge together. They search for the difference and ask here and there but still some concepts remain unclear.

Let’s take the example of the prominent sports brand, Nike. You know about the logo, it is a simple swoosh without any explanation or tagline. The symbol of motion and speed is the face of Nike since the beginning. It's very impressive and nice but it's just a shape. This was about the logo of this renowned sports giant.

Their branding includes tv commercials, ads, newspaper promotions, product packaging, store design, product placement in movies, sponsorships, in-store graphics, hang-tags, the music in its videos, the design of its website, print ads, product photography, technology and the list goes on. So, why your company should do branding along with logo designing?

Your customers would never like your logo just floating on a white background they want to see it representing something. They will create a picture of your brand once your logo is featured on your website, menu, and commercials. Without a story there cannot be moral, so, do not try to deliver the result before setting up the situation.

Now you would have understood the difference between logo and branding. The logo is the thing to be presented while branding is the whole presentation. It's important that the logo creator involved in the designing of your logo understands the importance of other graphics other than the logo.

What do many business owners think?

They think that first, the customer looks at the logo and if the logo looks good to them they are connected to it emotionally and know what the company sells. Once they understand this they purchase their products.

But do you think this would be the scenario?

The original story which actually works is that first, the customers look at the logo and then ponder over the story behind it. They think about the commercials, Tv ads, the packaging with your logo, imagining themselves in your clothes or using your products and all these imaginations create a strong emotional connection between you and them. This leads to the final purchase.

A logo here works as a visual queue which leads your brain to the final brand and its uses. The memory of the brand connection forces them to ultimately buy your product.

Branding is a more important aspect for new brands who are just emerging because they are not well known and people do not have any story in their mind related to them. When they will look at your startup logo they will not be able to picturise anything. This does not lead them to purchase.

This is a very simple thing to understand, a logo needs proper branding to connect your brand to the customers. If you lack in this, your brand might lag behind. What customers need is a simple way to reach out to you and logo designing along with its proper branding is the solution to this problem.
