Here’s How To Take Care Of Your Feet

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment
The branch of medicine which specifically deals with problems related to the foot and ankle is known as podiatry. Issues covered here include sports injuries, sprains, cracked heels, discolored nails, arthritic foot problems, flat feet, warts, and others.  Well trained podiatrists can diagnose the problem quickly and initiate your treatment as soon as possible, thereby helping your body relax and giving you peace of mind.

Do your feet currently appear to be in perfect condition? Even if so, it would still be a good idea to visit a podiatrist in Houston to remove the hard skin from below your feet. Getting toenails clipped at the clinic is yet another option, and you will also be able to know if you are wearing the right footwear as per your lifestyle or not. Most foot problems do not suddenly show up, but keep growing and result in walking difficulties once they become big. Additionally, if you are an athlete or regularly play sports, the podiatrist can assist you with related injuries as well.

Can a bunion case be handled by a foot doctor in Houston?
Bunion is the name for a deformity, which leads to the development of a painful joint in the big toe. This problem is mostly observed when the bone or tissue surrounding the joint of the big toe enlarges, making the toe move in the direction of the seconds toe. The reason for this is the misalignment of ligaments and tendons from the first metatarsal. Yes, the problem can certainly be handled after you consult a foot doctor in Houston

Treatment for a bunion is entirely dependent on its severity. Understand that if not treated in time, it could become really large and cause a lot of pain. In the early stages, the bunion needs to be padded. To get to the doctor, make sure that you wear comfortable shoes that are able to accommodate the bunion comfortably. Physical therapy, whirlpool baths and cortisone injections may be recommended by the podiatrist for temporary relief. If this treatment does not help, bunion surgery may need to be done.

  1. Osteotomy- The job of the surgeon here is to cut into the bone and place plates, pins or screws to maintain toe alignment
  2. Repair of ligaments and tendons- In case the bunion is forming due to loose or tight soft tissues, the podiatric surgeon may loosen or tighten them accordingly. This process is generally taken up in addition to the others.
  3. Exostectomy- It is the removal of the bony bump from the big toe, but this surgery has to be performed in addition to other surgeries such as osteotomy. If not, it would not be effective.
  4. Resection arthroplasty- Damaged areas are removed from the joint in order to create space between the bones here. It may decrease the big toe’s strength, which is why it is recommended for old adults.
  5. Arthrodesis- Here areas of arthritic joints are removed prior to the use of screws or wires that hold joints together. It is ideally suited for individuals suffering from arthritis.
