7 pilgrims, including 3 from Gujarat, died in a helicopter crash in Kedarnath

Seven pilgrims, including the pilot, died when a helicopter crashed near the pilgrimage site of #Kedarnath in #Uttarakhand on Tuesday, October 18. The helicopter carrying the pilgrim crashed soon after taking off from the Kedarnath temple near Garuda Chatti in Rudraprayag at 11.40 am.

"The bodies of six pilgrims and one pilot have been recovered from the spot," officials said. According to media reports, among the dead, three girls belong to Bhavnagar district. The family of the girl living in Bhavnagar was in mourning when they got to know about the tragedy. Both Urvi Jayeshbhai Barad and Kriti Kamleshbhai Barad were found to be cousins. Both lived in Desainagar-2 of Bhavgarh. Another girl named Purva Ramanuja was found to be a resident of Sihore in Bhavnagar district.

Initial investigations indicate that bad weather and poor visibility are the reasons for the crash. C Ravishankar, CEO, Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority, said, "The exact cause of the accident will be known after a proper investigation." Sources at the aviation regulator said a loud bang was heard before the helicopter caught fire. "Delhi-based Aryan Aviation's Bell 407 helicopter VT-RPN crashed en route from Kedarnath to Guptakashi, possibly due to cloudy weather,"

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and district police were conducting a joint search and rescue operation at the accident site. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered a detailed inquiry into the accident. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia expressed grief over the incident and said he was in constant touch with the state government. President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the pilgrims and the pilot in the helicopter crash.
