Healthy Food Recipes That Your Family Will Enjoy

by Rayanne M. Writer

Whether you have a busy schedule, are running out of things to make for dinner, or you want to make sure family meals are especially healthy due to the pandemic, it can be challenging to get a great meal on the table every day. Fortunately, there are a few easy and fun ideas you can take advantage of to keep your loved ones healthy. Here are a few healthy food recipes your family will enjoy.

Pita Sandwiches

Pita sandwiches are packed with flavor. They're also a creative alternative to sandwiches and you can fill them with plenty of healthy ingredients. You can grill chicken or use leftover rotisserie chicken, tofu, falafel, or steak strips as the protein for your pita sandwiches. You can also let your children help you prepare the fixings for the sandwiches like lettuce, tomato, onion, olives, and cheese. Provide a variety of condiments for the sandwiches as well, such as avocado mayo, yogurt with lemon juice and fresh herbs, or hummus. You can prepare organic fries to go with the pita chips, or make your meal even healthier by serving the pita sandwiches with sliced cucumbers and carrot sticks.

Homemade Pizza

If your family is a fan of pizza night, you can add more nutrients to this meal by making pizza at home. Purchase a gluten-free or multi-grain pizza crust and organic tomato sauce as the base for your pizza. Let your children help you add the toppings to the pizza, like mushrooms, olives, cheese, spinach, onion, tomatoes, and peppers. If you want to add meat to the pizza, uncured pepperoni, organic sausage, or roasted chicken are tasty choices. When your children participate in preparing dinner, they are more likely to try new vegetables. They're also less likely to miss pizza from their favorite restaurant.

Fried Rice

You can create a fried rice dish filled with your family's favorite ingredients. This dish also makes it easy for you to add fresh herbs and vegetables from your family garden. For instance, if you and your loved ones have been using a mushroom growing kit, you can chop a few of the mushrooms and add them to the fried rice to give the dish more iron and selenium. This quick dinner is also an ideal way to get your kids to eat veggies like peas, carrots, or corn. Add these vegetables to the rice in a skillet, add a little oil and the protein of your choice, and season with soy sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, chopped onions, salt and pepper. Once the veggies and rice cook a little, add a scrambled add to the rice mixture and mix it in to cook the egg thoroughly. This is a filling meal that only takes minutes to make, and you can customize it based on your family's tastes.

Tacos

Taco Tuesday is often a time of excitement, especially if your family loves tacos. You can make this meal one of a kind by adding barbecue tofu, buffalo chicken, braised beef, or roasted vegetables to your tacos. Multi-grain or grain-free tortillas add more nutrients to the meal. You can use ground turkey instead of beef for low-fat tacos, or veggie crumbles, roasted potatoes, or stewed black beans for vegetarian tacos. Toppings like grilled onions, peppers, shredded cheese, and sour cream make your taco dinner complete.

Veggie Pasta

Pasta is a filling meal that everyone in the family will love. You can add more vitamins and minerals to the meal by adding spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, and onions to the meal for fiber, vitamin C, iron, and antioxidants. Toss the pasta with olive oil, sea salt, and herbs to flavor the noodles, and top the sauteed veggies and noodles with the white or red sauce of your choice. This one-pot meal is easy to make and is a creative way to hide several vegetables in the meal.

Along with these healthy meals, you can also make juices from vegetables and fruits for your family. Blending a mixture of berries, lemon juice, ice, raw honey and water makes a delicious lemonade filled with vitamin C. You can also juice mangoes and peaches with carrots and ginger to give your family more vegetables by hiding the taste with sweet fruit. Happy eating!
