Health insurance is a sector which is seeing a rapid growth with liberalisation in the economy and the opening up of the insurance sector. Many private players have entered this fields are offering sops and other related discounts to the clients. Here are will try to remove to common myths associated with Health Insurance sector at large.

 

Only Diabetes and High Blood Pressure are considered as pre-existing diseases.

This is the most common myth vis a vis where pre-existing conditions are considered for the sake of health insurance. There are other diseases too like kidney failure, heart diseases, paralysis, eye problems which are considered to be pre-existing medical conditions by the Health Insurance companies.

You don’t get coverage for pre-existing diseases

This is not the case. It differs from company to company and there are companies which charge extra premium for the same or they provided coverage after a period of 1 year of buying the policy for pre-existing conditions. Again it all depends on the issuing company and how much risks they take.

Pre-existing diseases can be hidden from the Insurance provider

It is really wrong to hide anything from the agent or TPA at the time of purchasing the policy. It’s morally wrong to do so or keep the issuing company in dark about the pre-existing conditions. When you buy a policy, it is very important to fill up all the requisite forms thoroughly and if you are in doubt about anything, it is your duty to ask the concerned executive about the same. Hiding diseases is not a better option. If you are in doubt about medical conditions, it is always important to get a medical check up done before buying a policy. There is always a way out.

Common Cold, cough, fever are considered to be pre-existing diseases

This is totally wrong concept. Common cold, fever, cold, allergies or any type of ailments which gets cured by a visit to a physician are not considered to be pre-existing diseases in terms and language of the Insurance Policy.

Such are the myths which people have pertaining to health insurance and particularly related to pre-existing conditions. The most important thing is to get oneself covered irrespective of pre-existing conditions or no pre-existing conditions. It is always mandatory to get a health insurance policy to avoid uneventful circumstances when one falls sick or needs medical attention.
