Vintage Camera Museum, Gurgaon

•    The Vintage Camera Museum located in the basement of renowned photographer and photo archiver Aditya Arya’s home in DLF Phase 3, Gurgaon is a heaven for camera enthusiast and photo maniacs.

•     It’s is an accommodation of 1000 vintage cameras some of them dating back to the 1880s. These cameras are neatly displayed along with the pictures clicked by them. Most of the cameras placed here are from Arya’s own personal collection while the rest were gifted and donated by other photo maniacs.

•    The Vintage Camera Museum is now an undertaking of India Photo Archive Foundation which is an effort of Aditya Arya Archive by Aditya Arya himself.

•    The walls of the Museum is filled with stunning photographs of Nehru, Gandhi and political events from the 1930s to 60s by Aditya Arya’s uncle and a photojournalist Kulwant Roy.

•    Vintage Camera Museum is a mesmerizing effort from Arya Aditya to preserve and document their 30yrs of photography legacy in the field or social, political and sports arena for the future generations.

•    The museum restores original photographs and negatives by digitization, annotation, and preservation.

•    While exploring the museum the visitors and photo maniacs can discover the journey of photography and realize that this easy act of taking pictures by simply pointing and shooting had occurred over centuries through the more basic yet hard to operate machines.

•    Workshops regarding the history of cameras and photography including egg albumen, Salt paper, and other vintage photo processing styles are also being organized in the museum.

National Arts Centre, Gurgaon

•    Located in Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon National Arts Centre was established in 1979 by internationally renowned veteran Indian artist Roop Chand.

•    Beginning of National Arts Centre

1)    After returning from an abroad trip Roop Chand received a project of Kala Nagar in the pipeline.

2)    In the initial phase, Haryana State Government showed some inclination but a mishap occurred, Mr. B.N. Chakarvarty then the Governor of Haryana died. As a result, all the privileges that Roop Chand received from state government were shut.

3)    After this Roop Chand decided to start a small art center. He returned to his Ceramic Studio at Nimka situated at a country side place at village Dundahera. He began to live there after reorganizing his cottage and small shed.

4)    His friends staying abroad used to specially come and visit his studio on weekends. His studio was focused on modern art.

•    Formal Declaration of National Arts Centre

1)    In 1980 Roop Chand exhibited his paintings in Dundahera under the sponsorship of Indo Swiss Time Organization which was inaugurated by Mr. Charnjeet Chanana Minister of Industries.

2)    This leads to a formal declaration of National Arts Centre and Roop Chand was promised to receive funds and all possible help from the government.

•    Present Position of National Arts Centre

1)    National Arts Centre is also utilized by Roop Chand as a school to create aesthetic consciousness among the people in his vicinity.

2)    Art activities are organized for young artists and children in this center.

3)    About 100 young artists are part of the center who participates in art workshops, exhibitions and seminars at Art Centre Complex.
