Rising income levels, which have increases the lifestyle levels and awareness about sanitation, are leading the growth of sanitary ware industry in India.  On the other hand, the expanding real estate industry is lifting the growth in the sanitrayware industry by using sanitary items and bath fittings in apartments and office buildings. The use of premium products in bath fitting is now considered the extension of the life style, from rooms to bath rooms. To cater to this demand of sanitary wares, many local and leading international brands have recently set up manufacturing facilities in India. Cheap but skilled labor, abundant raw material and lower production cost plus the government initiatives to spread the awareness about sanitation is making India the hub of global sanitation industry.

According to a report on growth forecast on Indian sanitation industry in coming years, the south region is the largest contribution to the revenue in the sanitation industry in country. From major cities and metros, the Delhi NCR is the largest users of sanitary wares because of increasing construction activities in commercial and residential space. According to the report the growth of sanitary industry in India is expected to be in range of 45 % in next few years. The report further revealed that water closets, cisterns and wash basins are generating the largest share of revenue in the sanitary wares. However the demand for other products like sinks, pedestals, and bidets is also rising and expected to rise further.

At present the sanitary ware market in India comprises both organized and unorganized sectors. The organized sector is leading the market share in terms of market value and is expected to maintain its leads because of increasingly use of branded sanitary ware items by consumers. Thus, confirming that the organized sector will increase its share in the market. Some market analysts are of view that some close to 70% households in rural areas and 19% in urban areas do not have access to sanitation facilities. This indicates the potential of growth of sanitation industry in the country.  But some unorganized sector players are increasing the quality of their sanitary products and selling at low cost. These players are going to give challenge to the organized sector players in rural and semi rural areas. In terms of market volume, unorganized sector has lead over the organized sector.  The industry in valued at 470 million US dollars at present.
