Goverment Face the Challenges of Water Supply Problem in Gurgaon

by Gurgaon Renewal Mission Social Activist
Someone has rightly said our lives are a mixture of good and bad, the former and the later comes hand in hand. The logic gets applied to our new city of dreams “Gurgaon” as well. When we are constantly striving to build an economically strong city with various job opportunities, business, and investments coming its way, we are laid back by the acute water problems. The reason is not so very difficult to be outlined. The economical development of the city is far more fierce and rapid than the basic infrastructural development.

Water Supply A Hindrance?

Population in the city is constantly growing and with increased number of educational institutions, corporate, residential establishment the Water Supply Problem in Gurgaon is constantly growing. Compared to the actual necessity residents are not getting the adequate supply of water. Again thanks to the growing development of skyscrapers and some out of place constructions, wells in the city are drying out fast.

Residents are forced to buy water for meeting their daily requirements. However the same cannot be the answer to all the issues. Spending money on buying water may not be a problem for the privileged section of the society but is it easy for those who cannot make ends meet with the little they earn.

Government are trying hard to deal with the situation, with the recent developments coming its way, Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon has finally taken the responsibility of supplying water from October 1, 2013. Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) had been supplying water in old municipal limit areas, which will now be handled by MCG. MCG is confident that with proper planning, development, operations and implementation they will be successful in benefitting the residents of Gurgaon.

While MCG is taking care of water supplies in the entire MCG areas, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) is managing water supply in the new part of the city. As per the orders of the court the irrigation department has been strictly ordered to supply adequate water to HUDA so that it does not face any issue in supplying water to its designated area. Government is ready to provide aid to both HUDA and MCG to fight against the Water Supply Problem in Gurgaon.

Poor Power Supply in Gurgaon:

The issue is not limited to water problems; power supply problem in Gurgaon has become another concern. As per the officials from the state run electricity board the demand for electricity has almost doubled over the last five years boosting the existing Power Supply Problem in Gurgaon.

The supply is constantly failing to meet the demands. The city is a new home for many MNCs, which resulted in steep rise to real estate business. However the basic developments are not kept up to the level of expectations. Due to poor supply and excessive power cuts during summer, electric driven water pumps does not function adding more challenges to the existing water supply issue?

Recommendations

Along with the supply of adequate water in the city our government also needs to look after the proper usage of it. It must be ensured the supply of water should not be wasted by any means. Proper actions have to be taken to stop misusage of water. Here are some recommendations which can help the government to handle water usage in proper manner.

•  Placing water meters in commercial and residential establishments and then regularizing the water connection can be a good method to ensure proper use of water.
•  Recycling sewage water and using them for industrial purpose
•  rain water harvesting..
•  Equal water supply should be given to all in the city with proper water pipelines.
