Health insurance is not a new term for many of us and we all may understand the value that this brings to the table. However, today, we would like to discuss with you 2 specific types of policies

– Group Medical Cover (GMC) and Group Personal Accident (GPA)

Business owners would always want to make sure that their employees’ health and wellness is never compromised to keep their productivity and satisfaction levels high. Apart from must haves like maternity leave, paid leave, vacation leaves, etc. one initiative taken by a majority of business owners is to provide health insurance.

Let’s discuss further about these plans that are known as GMS and GPA covers.

What is GMC?

Group Medical Cover (GMC) is a customised health insurance plan for people belonging to a group based on their interests, employer-employee relation and more. This plan is designed in such a way that risk is divided amongst many people.

Therefore, the premium amount the policyholder pays is comparatively lesser than an individual health insurance plan. Some employers pay the entire premium on behalf of the employee while others may charge a nominal fee that is deducted from the employee’s salary.

Key feature of the GMC Policy

A group medical insurance cover depends on many factors like size, demographics such as age, gender, income, etc. It also provides the benefit of adding on covers and riders depending on the insurance policy.

Some of the key features of the policy are cover for hospitalisation, cover for pre and post-hospitalisation, OPD expenses cover, maternity and infant health cover, and even daycare expenses.

What is GPA?

Group Personal Accident (GPA) is a product that insures employees against personal accidents. This policy is designed to provide support to the employees in case of unexpected expenses arising out of unforeseen circumstances like an accident that can lead to injuries or even be unfortunately fatal.

Like the Group Medical Cover, the premium of the policy is lower compared to an individual policy.  This policy provides cover for accidental injuries even outside the work premises. i.e. when the employee is off duty too.

Key feature of the GPA Policy

The Group Personal Accident (GPA) insurance cover provides benefits like, disablement cover for partial and permanent disability (depending on the insurance clause), education cover for a maximum of two dependent children for every employee, ambulance charges, and even accidental death cover.
