Getting the Price Right- Depending on the features that the user chooses to have on his time piece, the price too varies.  Usually the higher end features that the watch has, the more expensive it is bound to be.  But it must be said that there are no cheap luxury watches.  At times a lot of features are put into a watch to give it that high price tag.  Gold is certainly a desired material for use in watch bodies, but the price could double or treble with changing the gold case to platinum. 

Functions on the Watch:  Most sought after luxury watches are mechanical in nature.  This is because it is on a mechanical movement that a watch maker can display his skills that are used to make the piece.  Most top end mechanical movements display a sophistication that is truly rare and unique.  With features like compass, altimeter, pressure gauge etc, there is never a dearth of features.
