by NTSE Guru Online NTSE Preparation Platform

National Talent Search Examination i.e. NTSE as the name only suggests it hunts for talent nation-wide which is high on taking important decisions, problem-solving skills, aptitude, and logical abilities.

To test all the above components NTSE has a separate section for MAT i.e. Mental Ability Test wherein students reasoning and interpretation skills of candidates are checked.  Each question in the section requires students to apply there logical thinking skills and presence of mind.

Logical reasoning and aptitude skills are important not only from the examination point of view but also from a career point of view too, as many competitive and entrance examination asks for such skills from students. More weightage is given to such questions during big interviews and scoring high becomes easy if you are sound with this.

One can assume NTSE, MAT Section as just an entrance point to the tunnel which is holding in it a lot of competitive and entrance examination for a future career. For Instance, examinations like CAT, IAS, top-notch college entrance examination, GRE, PSU’S, etc have a heavy weightage of MAT.

So, after knowing the importance of the MAT section I believe; now you must be wondering how to prepare for the same. As I have written this blog specifically for NTSE so hereby I will list the ways through which you can excel MAT section in NTSE and get yourself a prestigious badge of being an NTSE Scholar nationwide.

As per the past year trends of NTSE Exam Pattern, it has been observed that the level of difficulty of questions is rising every year, which requires students to prepare extraordinarily well. So, How can it be done becomes a major question???

With the help of sound knowledge on important topics and topics that are frequently asked in the examination you can definitely be on a better position than others to start with your preparations.

Here is a list of important topics for MAT from NTSE point of view:

  1. Verbal and Non-Verbal Series
  2. Coding and Decoding
  3. Mathematical Operations
  4. Cube and Dice
  5. Verbal and Non-Verbal Analogy

Now, after having a sound idea on important topics what’s the next most important factor which is to be considered before appearing for the exam is “How to complete the 100 marks MAT section within the time limit given”?

For this I have bought for you some tips:

  1. First and foremost, it's very important that you only attempt those questions whose topic you are well aware of.
  2. The test is to score the maximum marks in less time. Do not spend more time on any question no matter how well you know that topic.
  3. Do not feel panic if you have solved fewer questions because maybe the exam is difficult.
  4. While practicing make sure to keep a timer as this will help you to fasten your speed.
  5. Attempt easy topics first like blood relation, inequality, syllogism, etc.
  6. Attempt the puzzle, in the end, no matter how good you are in it.
  7. Give as many mocks as you can.
  8. Analyze your mocks to make sure that you are correcting your mistakes.

Lastly, problem approaching skills play a very important role in success in mental ability sections. The best part is that the questions that can be asked in a mental ability test are growing in variety faster than the theory of Science & Commerce.
