Get To Know More About Nissan Kicks 2021

by Masashi S. JDM Enthusiast

The Nissan Kicks is a subcompact crossover SUV manufactured by Nissan which was first introduced in 2016 and is still in its first-generation model with three available trim levels: the base S, medium SV, and top-spec SR trim.

5 Pros

Plenty of Standard Features

The new Kicks cabin is stylish, sharp-looking, and filled with excellent standard features including a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, three USB ports, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo. And new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with NissanConnect services, a Wi-Fi hotspot, satellite radio, and an eight-speaker Bose premium stereo. Other available features: a 7-inch digital instrument cluster display, proximity keyless entry, remote start, and automatic climate control.

Ample Cargo Space

The Kicks offers a great deal of cargo space with 760 liters with rear seats in position and extended up to 1503 with rear seats folded or can be folded flat.

Excellent Fuel Efficiency

The Nissan Kicks comes with a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with 122 hp coupled with a CVT or automatic transmission and average fuel consumption of 12.8 km/l - 14 km/l combined (13.2 city/15.3 highway).

Affordable Price

The Nissan Kicks offers a very good value due to its low entry price but you still get plenty of high-quality materials creating a balance and pleasant experience.

Easy-To-Use Controls

The Kicks‘ cabin is easy to get used to with straightforward and user-friendly controls. It also offers good visibility from the front and on the sides though the rear visibility is hindered by the thick rear roof pillars, but not that bad.

5 Cons

Disappointing Acceleration

The 2021 Kicks is fitted with a 1.6-liter HR16DE 4-cylinder petrol engine with 122 hp and 114 lb-ft of torque and an e-Power hybrid version with a 1.2-liter HR12DE 3-cylinder petrol engine with 78 hp and 76 lb-ft of torque with 1.57 kWh battery. The car is powered by an EM57 electric motor with 127 hp 192 lb-ft of torque. These engines are underpowered and noticeably weak with 10.7 seconds to accelerate from 0 – 100 kph, which is below par compared to the competition.

Lack of All-wheel Drive

Unfortunately, the 2021 Kicks does not offer an all-wheel-drive at all which is a drawback, as the presence of AWD is vitally important especially when that extra grip is needed.

Lack of Supportive Seats

The Kicks seats are poor and unsupportive and depending on your seating posture, you are most likely to note that the seats upfront lack upper-back support. The rear seats are too vertical with a flat and hard bench.

Lack of Rear Legroom

The Kicks is a small 5-door 5-passenger car with limited rear leg room, especially for tall passengers. Added the presence of a transmission tunnel which limits the foot room for the rear center seat occupant.

Underwhelming Standard Display

The 2021 Kicks offers a 7.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system but some of its icons are too tiny, the display and graphics are a little old-fashioned, and the basic operation is rather simple.

Verdict

The latest Nissan Kicks is a smart-looking, and stylish SUV, though it doesn’t offer much in terms of outdoorsy vibe or traction-boosting all-wheel drive, but you still get an extra useful cargo capacity. You can check the Nissan Kicks stocklist for more latest available models.
