You would have realised that over the period of 3-4 months, cases of passengers mistreating their customers, have gone up rapidly. More than 30% of flights across the globe were either delayed or cancelled. Even if they were on time , there were cases of luggage missing, flight overbooking and airlines acting rudely. All this is termed as passenger mistreatment.

You would definitely know this story of airline forcing a man out of an over boarded flight. This man, was a doctor and was dragged out of the airlines. He was chosen randomly by the airlines. This went viral and public was outraged at the way airlines behaved.

Are airlines permitted to overbook flights?

Legally they are allowed to do this because there will be passengers who won't board and airlines would like to fill seats to make maximum revenue of the flight. In case, everyone decides to come to then, there is trouble. Airlines would have to offer compensation. They would have to make a legal disclosure as to what they will offer and what they will not.

Airlines, might try to lure you off the flight by offering flight tickets, accommodation and coupons plus compensation.

If you are removed from flight then what compensation can you claim?

Airlines would have to give a written statement as how to claim the rights and also the following rules will be applicable as covered under Montreal Convention. If arrival time is within 1 hour, then you will be compensated with nothing. But, if it is more than 1 hour and less than 2 hours then you will be compensated with 200% of the flight ticket with cap of $700. If this is more than 2 hours of domestic travel then cap would be $1350.

You can always ask for ticket refund along with compensation for time wasted, cab charges, parking charges etc.

Make sure, you file your claim as this is going to make sure that airlines that wasted your time, are punished rightfully for the inefficiency of their. You paid full price of the ticket, you made proper arrangements and now if you are not serviced in the right way, it is the airlines fault and they should pay for it.
