GARDENING :- Himalayan Balsam Plant
This summer, we went on a Picnic in a beautiful spot near to our home, in The Lake District, and i saw, and fell in love with one of the Riverside bank flowering plants that i've never seen before.
This plant is called a 'Himalayan Balsam Plant'. It was brought over from the Himalayas back in (aprox.)1839 by the Victorian Explorers. It is can grow tall (up to 2 metres). Has an exquisite pink, funnel type flower that grown in either two's or three's (for the bees to venture into for the nectar and pollen).
This plant has caused me so much fascination ever since, due to the flamboyant manner in which it spreads its seeds !
...'Just' at the perfect moment, ...Each flower capsule, with the very slightest gossamer light nudge, ...it 'Explodes' quite unexpectedly violently so that the seeds scatter very far and wide. -Job done !
I've attached a photo of it.
