Futuristic Trends In Smart LED Lighting Technology & Industry

by Abhi Sharma Professional in Electronics Department

Over the past decade the light emitting diode or LED has slowly but surely replaced the older incandescent, fluorescent, and even the compact fluorescent lamps or CFLs. There were many years of research and development in many countries that led to the current iteration of what is known as the LED bulb, which has become highly efficient and has also come down in price, though it is still expensive when compared to the other forms of bulbs.

Modern Manufacturers

Currently, the LED bulb market continues to grow all over the world, with these bulbs replacing most of the existing incandescent and other forms of bulbs. The main reason for their dominance is the fact that they produce excellent quality light while using a fraction of the energy required to light up an incandescent or fluorescent lamp, without causing any significant environmental damage. The LED light manufacturers currently dominating the market are some of the biggest manufacturers, and they are based in the USA, Holland, Germany, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan to name a few. The technology to manufacture LED bulbs and lamps is highly advanced, which means many countries in the Third World and some developing countries do not have the facility to manufacture them. One of the positives about the newer versions of LED bulbs are that they are becoming more efficient than the previous generation and their usage are widening to a vast number of industries.

Increasing Global Demand

One of the reasons why there has been such as a rise in global demand for LEDs is because they are compact, come in various sizes, which make them ideal for applications such as in advertising, aviation lighting, automotive headlights, traffic signals, general lighting, and even medical devices. These features along with the decreasing price of the lamps have given LED light manufacturers a big boost in the world markets. Most of the top LED lighting companies around the world are investing millions of dollars in research and development to get the next generation of environmentally friendly and efficient LED lights ready for the market. Consumer statistics show that the LED lighting market is slated to register a phenomenal growth coming close to US$ 7 billion by the year 2022.

Futuristic Lighting Technologies

Some of the biggest LED light manufacturers in the world are Acuity Brands, Cree, and GE Lighting of the United States, Eaton in the Republic of Ireland, Philips Lighting/Signify in the Netherlands, Osram in Germany, Nichia Corporation in Japan, Seoul Semiconductor in Korea, Zumtobel Group in Austria, and Everlight Electronics of Taiwan to name a few. In Asia, there are many additional companies in China, India, etc., which are also ramping up production of LED lamps to satisfy a fast growing and expanding market.
