In this article I am going to explain the fundamentals of Fue Haartransplantation. Before proceeding further let me make it clear what is meant by fue.  The letters in fue, which are f, u and e are short forms of follicular hair transplant. This is procedure followed by surgeons for the transplantation of hair in the bald area of the scalp or in any area of the body like chest, faces etc.

Follicular unit

Previously it was considered that hair exist in human body as individual units. Only during the last fifty to sixty years the knowledge about follicular units of hair was known to humans. But even after the knowledge of the existence of follicular units, their role in transplanting was started only during the last few years of the previous century.   Follicular unit is a separate integral unit of hair in which 1 to 4 hairs are usually involved. Donor area

The area where hair grows abundantly is usually taken as the donor area. Back side of the scalp or either sides of the scalp is the area where hair grows abundantly in every individual. A strip of tissues in the donor area about 4 inches in length is cut from this area by the surgeon under local anesthesia or general anesthesia.  After this the surgeon separates each follicular unit of hair using a fine needle and a microscope.

Grafts

The follicular units so removed are the grafts. These grafts are kept in special liquids till they are transplanted as required. Studies regarding the liquids in which grafts have to be placed are progressing. Our knowledge in this field is yet to emerge.

Recipient area

The area where these grafts are to be implanted for solving the hair loss problem is known as the recipient area. The surgeon clears the area and applies anesthesia so that the patient does not feel the pain while the process is carried out. The surgeon prepares small holes in the recipient area where the grafts are to be placed. After completing this process, grafts are placed one by one by the surgeon with utmost care and concentration in the already prepared holes.

Recovery.

When the transplant is completed a bandage will be there on the head of the patient for a few days. This is to protect the area from stress and strain. The patient can go home on the next day.  For about one week there will be some pain and inconvenience around the surgery area. Pain medications, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs will be prescribed by the surgeon to avoid difficulties.

The transplanted hair will fall off within one week. But you need not worry. It is a natural process.
