With so many children connecting on social media platforms like Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, it can get really easy for people to miss out on the beauty of connecting in the outdoors. If you notice a trend with your family and their digital devices, there are plenty of fun activities that you all can enjoy together that will get them off of the couch. While it might take some prodding at first, consider some of the best options that will help your family transition to enjoying entertainment outside.

1. Water Balloons

Water balloons can be tons of fun on a hot summer day. For starters, use a hose to fill up a ton of water balloons and place them in a large container with handles. Bring that container to a nearby park or open area where you all can play games that involve water balloons. Whether you're playing tag or another coordinated game, make sure you all wear clothes that can get completely soaked.

2. Picnic at the Park

Bring your family to a local park that has lots of birds, lakes and fields. While you're enjoying your picnic basket and blanket, you all can use this time to play lots of games, read books and set out bird feed for any of the birds in the park. If there's a nearby lake, pick up a few pebbles so you all can skip rocks. You can also enjoy card games, kickball and volleyball. Bring a jump rope, roller skates and any other outdoor activity equipment that can make the picnic even more fun.

3. Kites

This experience can be a two-part activity. For starters, you all can make your own kites from scratch. You can design them with different colors, streamers and artwork that you all desire. Once you've created your own kites, make plans to enjoy them on a day that has enough wind to carry the kites. Go to a nearby field to enjoy the view as you all fly your kites.

4. Bonfire

A bonfire is a fun activity to get everyone outside to enjoy the view, good food and great company. If you're not well-versed in how to make a bonfire, you can always use a fire pit to do the trick. Use the bonfire to make s'mores, hot dogs and more. Once you made all of your snacks, you can all sit around the fire to enjoy the view. It's a relaxing way to end the weekend and connect with each other.

5. Bike Rides

Whether you all choose to find an empty parking lot or visit a park with lots of bike trails, bring the family to a place where you all can enjoy your bikes safely. Make sure everyone has their helmets and knee pads to protect themselves from potential injuries. Bike riding is something that everyone should know how to do. If you have little ones who don't know how to ride yet, use this opportunity to teach them. Once a person learns how to ride a bike, they'll always remember how to ride a bike. Plus, bike riding is an excellent form of exercise.

6. Berry Picking

If you live in a state where there are a plethora of local farms, do your research to see which farms open their gates to the public. Many farms encourage visitors to come and pick their own berries, vegetables and flowers. It all depends on what's in season. You can take your family once a month to enjoy the seasonal produce and flowers. You can bring home whatever you pick and pay for. Plus, you can make wonderful treats with whatever you all bring home. Whether you all choose to blend a strawberry smoothie or bake an apple pie, you'll be able to know that you've picked organic, homegrown produce to make it happen.

Conclusion

As you work on developing a fun list of activities to enjoy with your family, consider these activities within your options. They'll help you provide diversity to your list. They'll also help you connect with your family in some of the most classic activities families do together. Don't forget to take lots of pictures as you enjoy these activities with one another. It's nice to have physical proof of the wonderful memories you all create together.
