Fortnite is a better candidate than PUBG

Fair warning: datamined files are sometimes reliable indicators of what is coming into a match, like if we get to see that the Fortnite challenges a few days before or when the skins turn it into the game week or so before they actually hit the store. If there's a full size skin from the game, by way of example, you can bet it is actually coming fortnite materials.

Occasionally datamined documents are somewhat less reliable, and we are talking about the latter right now. Recent sleuthing has uncovered a new folder connected to the restricted time modes with "comp" from the name, and several are taking this to mean that Fortnite: Battle Royale is getting a competitive manner. It is not the craziest idea.

Let us think about why Fortnite could use a aggressive manner, to begin with. For one thing, it has a ridiculously high skill cap -- which usually means that the best of the top players may wipe the floor with folks like myself. That is mostly because of the fact that high-level gamers can seamlessly juggle the building and shooting mechanisms into a new type of level-editing shooter which really hasn't been viewed before.

Lower-skilled players are mostly playing a normal shooter with the ability to build ramps. Right now Fortnite has no skill-based matchmaking, that is part of the fun: that John Wick on the horizon may be a fool with a lot of free time or disposable income, or it may be the most dangerous player you've ever met.

Any kind of ranking system would also give a little bit more of an incentive for those players to stick about: Fortnite Items for sale somebody who's mastered the sport might just move on to greener pastures if there isn't a new arrangement in which to prove themselves.

It could also start laying the groundwork for genuine Fortnite esports. Esports with Battle Royale games are a tricky monster because arbitrary actions can make things inconsistent, and sports flourish when they're predictable contests that allow player ability carry the day.

Fortnite is a better candidate than PUBG, at least, because the resource needs of the construction system encourage battle and discourage camping, and camping is no pleasure to watch. Fortnite is the biggest game on earth, but it is far from the largest game in esports -- it is hard to imagine that Epic isn't thinking about how to build in this way.
