Ford Mondeo Engine Review
by Mccarty Jerry Web MarketerSexy looks, big performer on the road and sturdy engines
Introduction
Ford launched its fourth
generation Mondeo with more space and more refined technology. Now, it is
bigger than its predecessors and more comfortable though more expensive as
well. Its amazing features along with its high technology set up made Skoda
Superb, VW Passat and Mazda 6 its tough competitors.

Ford Mondeo proves itself a
real family car because of its practicality and enough space for both
passengers and luggage. It comes in hatchback and estate guises. And if engines
are failed to give satisfied performance, the diesels are at least there to
support and provide outstanding performance with better economy figures and
efficiency for its owner.
Engines
A gigantic engine range has
now flourished in the Mondeo family, surrounding petrol, diesel and Hybrid
options. Ford is testing the default choice of diesel in this market zone.
Although diesel Mondeos easily take over 60 per cent of sales (principally
because of the dominance of the fleet market, which is very concerned along
with CO2 emissions levels), the 1.5-Litre petrol EcoBoost has significantly
impressed test takers. It may not have a chief slug of low-down torque, but it
revs very modestly, sounds good and is tremendously quiet when cruising.

It may appear surprising to
come across a 1.0-Litre engine smartly powering a car as big as the Mondeo, but
the petrol 1.0-Litre EcoBoost does really cope. However, the flat power
deliverance from this 123bhp engine simply means it needs to be worked hard in
order to get the best from it. The first three gears are strongly stacked to
aid round-town performance, but fourth, fifth and sixth are more broadly spread
for relaxed cruising. That means numerous down changes are needed while
overtaking or tackling steep hills.
The 2.0-litre
EcoBoost petrol Mondeo engine
Ford has also launched a
decent 2.0-Litre EcoBoost petrol Mondeo along with 237bhp. This isn’t badged as
an ‘ST’ in spite of it being the best ever performing model in the whole range
– perhaps because it won’t disturb any of the current raft of hot hatchbacks in
a very straight line.
Turbo diesel
engines
As for turbodiesels, Ford
currently has its full range of units on smart sale. It begins along with a 1.5
TDCi unit offering 118bhp. When step up to the larger 2.0-Litre TDCi unit and
there’s an option of 148bhp, 177bhp and 207bhp outputs. The 177bhp 2.0-litre
TDCi doesn’t sense that fast, so for diesel fans test takers would recommend either
the 207bhp version or fasten with the cheaper 148bhp model and admit you won't
be enjoying yourself.
Economy
The smart petrol-electric
saloon-only Hybrid accounts for only a little useful of whole UK sales. It’s
not even the greenest model in the New Ford range (though its 99g/km CO2
figure does maintain it tax-efficient), but more prominently its increased
weight blunts management even further and the CVT transmission makes the power
train unlikable to use under acceleration.
