Ford Expedition – A Car For Everyday Adventure

The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV introduced in 1996 by the American automotive manufacturer Ford. The Expedition was produced in a five-door configuration and had been sharing the same platform with the Ford F-150.

First Generation

The first-generation Expedition was unveiled and succeed the Ford Bronco with exterior features which included a front fascia, rounded horizontal headlights, a chrome-colored mesh grill, and a chromed bumper.

The Expedition came in a two-row five-seat layout and an optional third-row eight-seat layout with cloth upholstery as standard. The first row seats have captain’s chair seating, the second row has a bench seat with captain’s chair seating, and the optional third-row seat includes a bench. Standard and optional features include a power moon roof, dual-zone climate control, heated side-view mirrors, and Ford’s Mach audio sound system with rear subwoofer.


This Expedition was fitted with a standard 4.6-liter V-8 petrol engine with a 4-speed automatic transmission and an optional 5.4-liter V-8 petrol engine which came with an automatic full-time four-wheel-drive drivetrain.


Second Generation

The second-generation Expedition was revealed in 2002 which featured a four-wheel independent long-travel suspension system and came with a redesigned mesh-grille with chrome borderline and Ford’s blue-oval badge at the center. The cabin comes with cloth seats as standard or wood-grain and leather seats for higher trims. The three-row seating is now standard with an optional Power-assisted PowerFold fold-flat setting. The cabin is versatile and has also received better insulation making it much quieter.

Other features include a CD-ROM-based navigation system, DVD-based rear entertainment system, a premium six-disc changer audiophile sound system with a rear subwoofer, power-adjustable accelerator and brake pedals, power moon roof, rear park assist/backup sensors, and second-row captain’s chair luxury seating.


This Expedition was powered by a 4.6-liter V8 petrol engine producing 232 hp and the optional 5.4-liter V8 petrol engine producing 260 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.


Third Generation

The third generation Expedition was released in 2007 introducing a new long-wheelbase Expedition EL as an extended-length version of the regular. The front end features Ford’s three “hollow-bar” grille, multifaceted headlamps, side-view mirrors with LED indicators, and redesigned tail lamps. In 2015, the Expedition was modified adding a new three-bar grille with step-stacked bars, thinner headlamps, lower chrome bar, front bumper with a large lower air intake, and LED fog lamps.

The interior comes in an eight-seat 2-3-3 layout with two captain seats on the second row with a passage-through in between the rear three-seat bench. The cargo size measures 526 liters and can be extended to 3066 liters with the second and third-row folded flat.

The Expedition is equipped with 5.4-liter Triton V8 petrol engine with 300 hp paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and a front- or all-wheel-drivetrain. In 2015, the introduction of a new twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 petrol engine with 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque was the only available engine.


Present

The fourth edition was launched in 2017 with available trims: XLT, Limited, and Platinum in long-wheelbase body style. This Expedition comes with eight seats or with a seven-seat option with lots of space and storage spaces for both front and second-row seats. Standard features include a SYNC infotainment system with a 4.2-inch screen, Bluetooth, four USB ports, a nine-speaker stereo, satellite radio, push-button start, rear parking sensors, and a Ford MyKey safety system. Optional features come with a 12-speaker premium sound system, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, front parking sensors, proximity keyless entry, and remote start.

The Expedition is powered by a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 petrol engine with 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
