If you have a family, it is likely your life's goal to keep every member of your family healthy and safe for as long as possible. You probably know that it is better to give your kids snacks that are made from vegetables rather than just chips and cookies, but there are many other healthy foods that you can incorporate into their diets too. Nutritious food can help in brain development, muscle development, and even metabolism to ensure that health and wellness are always a top priority. Continue reading below to learn more about five foods that you need to incorporate into your family's diet for health and wellness purposes.

1. Olive Oil

You may make many foods in your home that require oil, including desserts, potatoes, chicken that is pan-roasted, and so much more. Rather than use regular vegetable oil or even butter, however, consider using extra virgin olive oil instead, which will even make your food even more delicious for your family. This olive oil is a superfood, meaning it is packed full of nutrients and antioxidants that will promote your family members' health. The adults and teenagers in your family can even take a small spoonful of the olive oil on a daily basis to get these necessary benefits.

2. Yogurt

Yogurt is a wonderful food that promotes health and wellness and that almost every child is sure to love. It can be a dessert, a snack, and even a part of breakfast on a daily basis, which is important when you are trying to make substitutions for each of these. You can buy Greek yogurt that is unflavored, and add in your own fruits so that the yogurt does not have processed sugars in it. If you have any dairy allergies in your family, you can even serve yogurt that is dairy-free and made from almond milk, for example.

3. Beans

Beans of almost any kind are also a superfood that your family is sure to love. They are packed full of a high amount of protein to boost metabolism and to boost bone and muscle growth for every member of your family. Beans are also rich in fiber which is great for the digestive health of your family, no matter the age that they may be. Some of the healthiest and best-tasting beans you can choose from include black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, and even chickpeas; but be sure to drain them after opening the can if you do not buy your beans fresh.

4. Avocado

Healthy fats are some of the best foods that your family can eat. They help to satisfy hunger, lower cholesterol, and even reduce any inflammation that is in the digestive tract or the body in general. Avocado can be served in so many ways too, including even on toast in the mornings or in a smoothie similar to a milkshake. Avocado is also great on its own and mashed if you have a baby or a toddler, and it is delicious in a pesto or in a salad.

5. Nuts and Seeds

So long as you do not have tree nuts or peanut allergies in your household, nuts and seeds are full of protein and fiber. They are also rich in healthy fats that can help the digestive tract as well. There are so many types of seeds and nuts that are delicious for any taste pallet including almonds, walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and even pumpkin seeds. Put them in with the granola, or serve them in a bowl where your children and family members can eat these seeds and nuts as a snack.

Final Thoughts

When you have a family, it is part of your job to keep your family members healthy and well. This can come by keeping them active as much as possible and by serving them foods that are healthy for them and that promote overall wellness. Look for foods that are rich in proteins, fibers, and even healthy fats to ensure that your children and family members are receiving the nutrients they need in a day. This will help them to stay strong and to be able to live long lives, lowering the risk of significant disease.
