Flexible Core Vs Rigid Core LVTby Philip Smith Inbound Marketing Manager
While searching for luxury vinyl tiles for your next project, you might stumble upon two common industry jargons – Flexible Core LVT and Rigid Core LVT.
The terms do give a glimpse of what these LVT types are about. But they have deeper technical aspects which we will uncover under the subsections below –
Flexible Core Luxury Vinyl Tile
Flexible Core Luxury Vinyl Tiles often come with glue down application method. However, these self-adhesive variations too, but they are a rarity and less practicable.
Glue down approach provides more stable LVT floors. That said, flexi-core LVTs make an ideal selection for large rooms, where stability is a major concern. Apparently, in larger rooms, self-adhesive and click-lock LVTs do not work to your expectations in terms of stability and grip.
Since you have to apply the glue, you have the freedom to use the best quality adhesive for your LVT flooring. You do not get this advantage with self-adhesive vinyl tiles.
However, if you do not have any experience or do not know how to install tiles, you should hire a professional to install your flexible core glue-down LVT flooring – even if it is written on the package that it is a DIY-friendly product. There is a lot of things you will need to take care of.
Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Tile
These LVTs are rigid or firm at their core. That’s how they get their name.
Rigid Core LVTs do not bend or roll like standard or other LVT varieties. These luxury vinyl tiles come with a DIY-friendly, easy-to-install click-lock mechanism.
These LVTs are easier to install also because you do not need to apply any glue, as there is already a glue applied on their back. You just need to peel their back and apply them on the subfloor.
They are stronger than standard vinyl and thin and flexible vinyl tiles. Due to their rigid core, these tiles are more durable than flexible core and other vinyl tile types.
