Apply white thin set mortar on the backing of pencil tiles. You will need a margin trowel to this smoothly. Ensure that the amount of mortar is adequate, like it should cover the bck of pencil tile completely and does not ooze out, at the same time, when pressed on the fireplace surround.
Press and apply the pencil molding on the fireplace surround as per your design idea. Hold it for a while before releasing the pressure.
Let the pencil molding tiles be there for about a day or two.
They do not require grouting. If you want, you can use unsanded grout. Wipe off excess grout within ten minutes.
