Five Kitchen Remodel Mistakes to Avoid

by Stone Style Design Stone Style Design

It's time to face up to the truth. Even the well-considered plans of kitchen remodeling in Washington DC has hit some bumps in the road. Whether it's a cabinet that doesn't match snug or wall paint that doesn't look as fine as you thought it would, most of the professional contractors out there can tell you about the mishap of the kitchen remodeling that they've encountered first-hand. Thanks to the irritating mistakes that others have endured, however, we can give five great tips to help you avoid having the same glitches yourself as you prepare your kitchen remodeling.

Doing everything on your own

With the busy lives that many of us live nowadays, alone time can be scarce, and working alone is often an excellent way to get things done without explaining how to do something to someone else. If you're doing a significant home remodeling such as a kitchen remodeling, alone time isn't always a good idea at all. Hiring a professional kitchen remodeling contractor is a good idea, as they can not only help with the design, but they will also help you with the total budget that will be required for the project. You may also want to arrange a consultation with a licensed plumber in your region to discuss installing a drain, a garbage disposal installation, or running water lines to a new refrigerator. Having a second, and occasionally even a third pair of eyes, and your hands will help you stick to your budget and have a kitchen that you're satisfied with.

Going above your budget

Before you begin the work, make sure you've carefully planned every aspect of the remodeling. This covers your supplies, cabinets, or other furniture, the best kitchen flooring, paint, equipment, and labor costs if you employ a contractor. Call contractors to get a thorough estimate of the remodeling ahead of time to clarify that you have a budget and can't go beyond what you can afford. You don't want to fall into a money trap and have to come up with more money to purchase items you didn't include in your initial kitchen remodeling plans.

Wait too late to buy appliances.

Many homeowners make a huge mistake to wait until new counters or cabinets are installed, and the walls have been painted to choose their new appliances. If you don't plan to buy new appliances, you're lucky enough to measure items to match your current appliances. For the rest of you, purchasing appliances before the work is complete is the safest way to measure it correctly. Nothing will ruin a kitchen remodeling more than getting new cabinets or counters installed only to find out they're a few inches too large, and your stove doesn't fit the space it needs to work within.

Not preparing for storage options.

One of the aims of a kitchen remodeling is to make enough space for storage. Unfortunately, many people prepare for new appliances and countertops but sometimes don't take enough time to consider storage. The kitchen is often called the heart of the house since families come together for food and conversation. It's also the space where you need to store your kitchenware, pots and pans, cook appliances, cook linens, and small kitchen appliances when not in use. Be sure to go over the storage specifics with your contractor to ensure you have enough cabinet space for everything when the remodeling is complete.

Not using space wisely.

You don't want to walk from a sink or counter at one end of the kitchen to a stove at the other end while you're cooking a meal for dinner. Although this would be a fantastic exercise, it's just not logical to prepare a meal. Whether you have a very large or tiny kitchen with limited space, take the time to prepare everything so that cooking, cleaning, and even having coffee with a friend can be easy.

If your next project is in Northern Virginia for kitchen remodeling, consider the above points to make your work easy and worthy.
