Fire Exposure: What You Need to Do to Be Safe

by Peter Jason Content Enthusiast

According to the National Fire Protection Association report 2019, it has been stated that there have been around 361,500 domestic fires in the United States. So imagine this- you wake up from your peaceful slumber one night and find yourself in a room engulfed in flames. You do not know where your family is, and you have only a little over a minute to get out before you pass out from the smoke.

No one wants a traumatizing experience like that- and that is exactly why we have compiled together a list of ways you can help to protect yourself in a fire and the measures you can take to prevent fire accidents.

Extinguishing the Fire

There are a few courses of action you can take when exposed to fire. The first course of action includes accessing the situation and calling the fire department as soon as possible.

Then, while the professionals are making their way to your place, you can attempt to take care of the damage as much as you can by yourself by using a fire extinguisher. Ensure that you prioritize your safety first, so if you feel like there is too much smoke, get out as fast as possible.

Escaping Area of Flames

Most people do not realize that the heat and smoke emitting from fire accidents are often a far more dangerous threat than the flame itself.

The heat is much higher near the ceiling, going up to about 600 degrees and more. Hence, when the smoke gets too heavy, you can ensure your safety by getting on all fours on the ground and crawling your way out- that is where the air is more immaculate, and the heat is generally around 100 degrees.

To prevent yourself from passing out, cover your nose with a cloth or a towel to filter out the smoke, and crawl your way towards the exit.

Alarm Safety

As stated by the NFPA, 3 out of 5 house fire deaths have instigated in a home with no smoke alarms or broken smoke alarms.

Consequently, we place much emphasis on getting into the habit of making sure that you have working smoke alarms installed in every room and keep changing the battery of the alarms after every other month to make sure they are functioning at all times.

National Storage Tank is an American company founded by Nicole Oblad in 2009 that specializes in offering water tank solutions for various purposes such as vineyard management, landscape contractors, groundwater, etc., in naming a few. One of their popular growing tank solutions is a fire suppression tank to support sprinklers to function at their maximum capacity and as a water source for areas that do not have enough water supply to utilize in case of a fire.

Remember to remain calm during this situation- a panicked mind won’t help you in rationally coming up with a fire escape plan. Just remember the above tips in mind and keep yourself safe in literal fiery situations.
