Finding Time For Yourself As A Stay At Home Parent

by Richard Hamilton Early learning centre

Being a stay at home parent can be a blessing. You get to watch your little ones grow, and be apart of their lives what seems like 24/7. But one of the most challenging aspects to parenting and being a stay at home parent is balancing the time and making sure you get enough ‘you time.’ It isn’t selfish to want this time for yourself. After all, you may spend all day taking care of the kids, the house, and the spouse. But where can you fit this time in, and are there any tips or tricks to getting the down-time you need to recharge?

Just An Hour A Day

If you are like most parents, getting even an hour of downtime throughout the day can seem like the greatest thing in the world. Between activities with the kids, cleaning, and preparing meals, it can feel like you never get the time. Once your children are out of the nap time routine, or simply won’t nap, you may be actively parenting without any breaks. Those that go off to work, get dedicated breaks and lunch, but unfortunately stay at home parents don't’ get that luxury. To fit an hour in the day for you, coming up with ways to distract your child is the key. You can still observe quiet time, where your child will lay down in their bed and rest. This is an excellent tool, and if you keep up with, it will get you an hour of peace and quiet during the day.

Investing in Education

Enrolling your kid in a childcare strathtulloh program is another excellent way to get some time to yourself. Many stays at home, or even working parents, may shake their head at a stay at home parent enrolling their child in such programs, simply because they think it is unneeded. However, an early learning center offers the best advantages for your child to learn and be more social with their peers. It also provides the benefit of allowing parents some much-needed downtime. If possible, consider using an early learning center 2 or 3 times a week. It not only gives you a break but is hugely beneficial to your child.

Observe Evening Time Routines

If you are a parent that doesn’t believe in a strict bedtime, it’s time you get on board. Having a night for kids is excellent. They get the sleep they need to feel well-rested, and you get a break in the evening. There are sites online that can help you figure out the best sleep schedule for your child. It can be tempting to stay up late to get your ‘you time’ but being well-rested can help with getting through the day tomorrow.
