Image Final Fantasy XIV’s long awaited patch 2.2 is set to deploy from March 26th at 1:00 AM PDT to March 27th at 2:00 AM PDT. Final Fantasy Gold This new patch promises to be the largest content patch yet and will shake things up the most since 2.0 itself! In this quick guide to the important changes in FFXIV’s patch 2.2, I have outlined the biggest changes to the game, what players need to do to access this new content, and how these new patches might change the dynamics of Final Fantasy XIV.

By far the biggest change in Final Fantasy XIV’s endgame will be the introduction of a new tomestone type: Allagan Tomestones of Soldiery. These will be the new high level tomestone. Tomestones of Mythology will be easier to get and no longer have a cap, while Tomestones of Soldiery will be capped at 450 a week.

Tomestones of Soldiery can be used to purchase new equipment created by Gerolt (the NPC who creates your relic weapon). It is likely that the same NPCs in Revenant’s Toll are where this gear is purchased, rather than Gerolt himself.

While we do not have confirmation, I suspect that everything in the game that currently rewards Tomestones of Mythology will have that replaced with Tomestones of Soldiery. Everything in the game that rewards Tomestones of Philosophy will have those numbers replaced with Tomestones of Mythology. I believe that high level duty roulette will reward 40 Tomestones of Soldiery.

With that said, it is possible that only the new Lost City of Amdapor dungeon along with the new Brayflox’s Longstop (hard), Halatali (hard), along with the old Pharos Sirius will offer Tomestones of Soldiery. Each of these dungeons has a higher item level entry requirement than every other dungeon in the game. It is possible that the old dungeons will offer Tomestones of Soldiery too, but just in lesser amounts. We will have to wait and see.

Tomestones of Philosophy will no longer be in the game with the release of 2.2. Players will be able to exchange existing Tomestones of Philosophy for Tomestones of Mythology at Auriana in Revenant’s Toll. Items purchased via Tomestones of Philosophy will be moving elsewhere in-game. Darklight gear will now drop from dungeons rather than be purchasable via currency. Former tomestone items (Animal Fat, Coke, Peacock Ore, etc) will be available as a Grand Company reward for 1500 seals each.

No word on where the quenching oil for relic weapons will be purchased from, but I assume it will still be available from the vendors in Revenant’s Toll but will cost a small amount of Mythology tomestones with the new patch.

Players will be able to upgrade their relic weapons beyond the Zenith upgrade in this patch. However, the developers have stated that it will not be like the previous upgrade (i.e. just turning in tomestones) and that it will be a slow process and will allow players to customize their relic weapons.

Finally, the developers have stated there will be ongoing plans to offer continuous upgrades to the relic weapon with every patch from here on out, so be sure to upgrade your weapon to Zenith if you have not yet already!

The Lost City of Amdapor is a brand new 4-man dungeon being added with the release of patch 2.2. Players must have completed the main storyline up through The Ultimate Weapon and have an average item level of at least 55 to enter. To gain access to the dungeon, players must complete the “One Night in Amdapor” issued by the NPC E-sumi-Yan found in Old Gridania at (X:6, Y:10). New Hard Mode Dungeons: Brayflox’s Longstop (Hard) and Halatali (Hard)

Brayflox’s Longstop and Halatali are getting hard mode versions in Patch 2.2. In order to enter, players must have completed the main storyline through “The Ultimate Weapon” quest. Halatali (Hard) also required players to complete the normal mode version first (since this is an optional dungeon).

Players can gain access to these dungeons at Mor Dhona at (X:22, Y:8). The NPC Bloezoeng grants access to Brayflox’s Longstop, while the NPC Hugubert gives access to Halatali. Players need to have an average item level of 55 to enter. Urianger in The Waking Sands will offer players a new attunement quest, “Another Turn in the Coil” to players who have completed Alisaie’s Pledge (completed by clearing the 5 turns of The Binding Coil of Bahamut).

Leviathan will be added into the game, in both hard and extreme modes. Extreme mode Leviathan is supposed to be a step up in difficulty from Garuda, Titan, and Ifrit extreme modes. The item level requirement to enter is i80, a significantly higher than what is required to enter for the other extreme modes.

Leviathan can be unlocked through a new main scenario quest entitled “Through the Maelstrom”. I would assume this questline starts in The Waking Sands. The Hard Mode version will actually be tied to a main storyline quest and as a result is supposed to be fairly easy to complete. The Extreme Mode version is supposed to be difficult; the developers report it will drop “high item level weapons”, but will not yet reveal the item level of the weapons.

Thornmarch (King Mog fight) is getting an extreme mode version as well with patch 2.2. Given that the item level requirement for this fight is also item level 80, it is likely that this will be a more difficult fight than the earlier extreme primals. Not sure as to the rewards for this just yet. The entry for this dungeon is also offered by Urianger in The Waking Sands. You must beat Ifrit (extreme) to get the quest, “On the Properties of Primals”.

A new “Echo” buff has been added that grants players buffs when participating in some of the 8 man fights. If your group wipes and has been fighting for at least 3 minutes, the buff will start stacking up. It increases attributes by a certain percentage, resulting in heightened health, healing potency, and damage.

The echo buff caps out at 5 stacks, and the strength of the echo buff depends on the content itself. Some content offers 10% bonus to attributes per stack, whereas other content offers 5% bonus to attributes per stack. Here is the content that is eligible for the echo buff in 2.2:

10% per stack (50% cap):

The Bowl of Embers (Hard) / The Howling Eye (Hard) / The Navel (Hard) / Thornmarch (Hard) / A Relic Reborn: The Chimera / A Relic Reborn: The Hydra

5% per stack (25% cap):

The Minstrel’s Ballad: Ultima’s Bane/The Howling Eye (Extreme)/The Navel (Extreme)/The Bowl of Embers (Extreme)

As you can see, only 2.0 content and Thornmarch hard mode will be eligible for the big 50% buff. The 2.1 extreme mode primals along with the Ultima’s Bane mission will be eligible for a smaller 25% buff. Note that Turns 1-5 of The Binding Coil of Bahamut are slated to receive the echo buff, but will not be eligible for the Echo buff immediately after the release of 2.2.

No Lockout on The Binding Coil of Bahamut

Turns 1-5 of The Binding Coil of Bahamut will not only be now available in Duty Finder, but they also will no longer have a lockout – you can complete turns as many times as you like. Given that the old Allagan gear offered by these dungeons will be a step down from the new Soldiery gear and there is no cap on Tomestones of Mythology, it is likely there will be no loot lockout on The Binding Coil.

There will be no echo buff with The Binding Coil of Bahamut immediately after release. I can only assume this is because Allagan weapons will be at least somewhat relevant, so they want to make them a bit more difficult to obtain until item levels further inflate.

Retainer Levels and Ventures (Missions)

Retainers will be getting a whole new level of functionality in patch 2.2, with the surprise announcement of a new game feature known as “Ventures”. If you ever played SWTOR, the system sounds quite similar to the way you could send your companions on missions.

The way it works is that you can assign your retainers to go on ventures during which they will go seek items on your behalf. Retainers then go on these missions (which take a certain amount of time) and return with whatever reward they found. For completing ventures, retainers will also receive experience points. As retainers level up, they will get access to longer and more advanced missions with better rewards.

You must choose a class for your retainer which will determine the type of missions it will be able to undertake. Players can have their retainer be any of the Discipline of Magic, War, or Land professions available to players. The class will influence what types of rewards your retainer gets. Discipline of Magic or War professions go on “hunting missions” (i.e. picking up skins and other item drops), whereas Fishing retainers gather fish, mining retainers gather ore and gems, and Botany retainers gather plants.

At a higher level, retainers get access to “Exploration” ventures which cost more ventures to do, take a long time to complete, but provide a better reward and more experience. These ventures are said to reward random items like Allagan coins (which can be sold for gil) as well as “items unique to exploration” – probably furniture, rare crafting materials, and maybe the occasional tomestone (similar to Treasure Maps).

Since players can get two retainers, just make sure you select different professions for each retainer in order to get access to a variety of rewards. You can always change your retainer’s class, but you do lose experience earned. It is too early to know exactly which profession will be the most valuable, so have each retainer select a different mastery for best results.

I think it is safe to assume that retainers on mission will not be selling goods. Players will have to choose between going on ventures and selling items on the Market Boards. As a result, most players will likely only have 1 retainer on a venture at a time while the other one sells items.

In order to go on these ventures, retainers require “Venture” credits. Players will be able to buy stacks of 5 Ventures from their Grand Company quartermaster for 1000 seals (200 seals per venture credit).

Grand Company Seals Got A Lot More Interesting

As you may have picked up by this point in the article, Ventures (the currency needed to send your retainer on missions) and Tomestone items (animal fat, peacock ore, etc) will both be purchasable via Grand Company seals. High level players now have something interesting (and potentially lucrative) to spend their seals on thanks to this change.

The question is whether or not the former Tomestone crafting goods will be used in the new crafting recipes. If these are needed in large quantities, they could get quite expensive after everyone spends their seals on Ventures for their retainer. Right now the price for these crafting items has bottomed out as so many players have a glut of Tomestones of Philosophy.

Glamours System Added

Players interested in modifying the appearance of their equipment will now have a new means for doing so in the “Glamours” system.

While the tutorial on the official site is extremely wordy and confusing, what this system does is allows players to make one piece of equipment in their inventory to look like another piece of equipment in their inventory when equipped. For example, if you preferred the look of the Crown of Light another, higher level helmet, you could use the Glamour system to make the higher level piece of equipment look like the Crown of Light. In this instance, the Crown of Light would be referred to as the projected item.

There are two caveats to this system:

If you want Item A to look like item B, you need to own both Item A and Item B. A new player cannot make their gear look like it is high level equipment when they do not own that equipment.
You need a “Glamour Prism” to cast a glamour. These are made by crafts, and come in 5 grades along with one for each craft.

The grade and type of glamour prism required corresponds to the item level of the item you want project (i.e. the item with the desired appearance). If the item you want to project is repaired by an Armorsmith, you will need an Armorsmithing glamour prism. The required grades of glamour prisms depends on the item level of the projected item; Grade 1 for item levels 1-20, Grade 2 for 21-40, Grade 3 for 41-60, Grade 4 for 61-80, and Grade 5 for 81 and above.

Crafting Changes

A new set of high level crafting recipes will be also added in patch 2.2. These will be unlocked by reading the “Master Recipe Books”. There are 2 master recipe books for each Discipline of the Hand.

The master recipe book for new crafts will be available from the NPC Talan in Revenant’s Toll. You must change to the level 50 crafting class and then talk to Talan to get access to this master recipe book.

There is another NPC in Revenant’s Toll, Tataroga, who offers a recipe book for the new Glamours. buy fifa coins  While it is not exactly clear from the patch notes, it is possible that players may have to successfully craft all of the new master recipes from the new master recipe book for their chosen profession in order to get the Glamour recipes from this NPC.
