Here’s a list of do’s and don’t’s to keep the sheen intact for a longer period of time-

Marble sealing- marble is more porous than granite and several other types of stones. It is therefore essential to seal to keep the stains at bay.

Using neutral pH cleaners- it is best to opt for a marble-specific cleaner. Ammonia can be used only if it is very diluted.
Avoid cleaning with citrus cleaners, vinegar, tub and tile cleaners and most multi-purpose cleaners. Acids etch marble, leaving behind a scratchy texture.

Dust often- dry particles can scratch and stain the marble too, as has a porous nature. Microfibre dust mops work well, avoid scratching while vacuuming. Avoid scratches with dirty shoes.

Clean spills immediately- a proper seal will offer more time to clean up the spills before they leave a stain. It is best to clean spills immediately, especially when its juices, alcoholic drinks, sodas and other acidic beverages.

Dry after cleaning- run a dry cloth after mopping as the traces of dirt in the residual water will dull the marble.

Baking soda for stains- apply a poultice of baking soda and water in case a splash of wine falls and seal with a plastic wrap for several hours. Mop it with a wet cloth afterwards.

Get chips and cracks repaired- damages spot ruins the stone further. It is best to get it repaired by experts.

Bathroom floor care- seal more often and use rugs and mats for maximum coverage.

Be careful with the furniture- use felt pads under furniture legs or moving blankets while sliding to avoid scratches.

Use plant stands, rugs and mats- use protective pad or rug while using plastic, metal, ceramic and other hard materials.
