With Ramzan around the corner, it's time to shop for clothes, jewellery and other accessories, as the next few months would be filled with festivities and iftar parties.

Designers, too, are stocking up their boutiques, with an eye on the trends of the season. Shehla Khan, who has designed for the likes of Sonam Kapoor and Asin (pictured), suggests flowery printed kurtas and kalidaar kurtas for women. These are short in length from front and long from behind. If you don't find these in Hyderabad, Asin's ensemble featured on the top of this page is a fashion hit too. The kalidaar kurtas can be teamed with lacy pants, which complement the intricacy of the kurtas.

She also says that one can do away with the dupatta because of the humid weather. There is also scope for experimenting with footwear. One can experiment with belle flats, gladia tors or strappy heels. Jewellery, however, should be kept at a minimum.

Men should opt for more traditional cuts and lighter shades, says designer Manish Tripathi. White is a preferred colour for kurtas, embellished with intricate designs in brighter colours. Black should be avoided. One could go for pastel shades like mint, powder blue and beige, says the designer.

Combinations like a pink kurta and white salwar also works. For iftar parties, one can wear linen jackets in light shades, nawabi or Pathani suits. A bandhgala jacket also works fine. For footwear, men can wear Pakistani sandals (closed from front, open from back) or Peshawari jootis.
