Here are some interesting facts about the city and its people:

Local dialect: Although Hindi is the official language of the city and almost 98% of the population speaks the language, the unique dialect distinguishes native speakers here from anywhere else in India. It also has many different types of rolls and chats while the most popular food item is poha-jalebi with every seller around every corner. The huge ’56-dukkan’ food market has shops selling a plethora of sweets and savoury snacks. The ‘Sarafa bazzar’ is famous for its nightlife and is crowded with foodies till early morning hours.

Public transport system: Indore has a well-oiled bus transport system with thousands of cleverly colour-coded buses covering dozens of routes every day. It also has a rapid transit system that runs AC buses fitted with GPS and IVR trackers that are used to inform passengers at bus stops about the location of the bus. One can easily find hotels in Indore near the railway station and the Indore Junction also boasts an A-1 grade from Indian Railways.

Cleanest city of the country: The Swachh Bharat campaign has awarded Indore with the tag of the cleanest city in India and rightly so. Not only is Indore’s air much cleaner than most Indian metros but it also has an effective waste disposal system with municipal vans making routine trips every morning to collect waste from each neighbourhood.

Shopping hub: The Maharaja Tukuganj Cloth Market sells the best of zari and zardozi textiles with the Badda Sarafa Road having an impressive collection of intricate jewellery on the show. Indore is also known for its handicraft products which can serve as souvenirs and gifts to take back home.
