Family-Friendly Snowmobile Trails in Minnesota for the Holiday Seasons

by Wesley Thor Tour Guide

While some Minnesota residents might lament the all-too-quick passing of the warm seasons, others can't seem to wait for those first snows so they can bring their snowmobiles out of storage to hit the trails with family and friends.  Snowmobiling is a renowned Minnesota pastime that makes even the toughest winters more tolerable.  If you are looking for some family-friendly trails or planning to visit Minnesota for a wintry vacation, the following areas and their trails are ideal for memorable snowmobile fun!

Mille Lacs Trails

The snowmobile trails of Mille Lacs are famed throughout Minnesota.  There are trails for every time of rider--including family groups.  Many families love the trails that boast stops for refreshments.  Of course, there are also trails that take riders through the enchanting forests of birth and evergreen and over frozen stretches of lake. Snowmobiles can even be rented at Mille Lacs making it a convenient place to enjoy unsurpassed winter fun!   The area is a popular place to visit around the holidays and there are many types of accommodations to be found if you plan on an extended stay.

Brainerd Lakes Trails

As one of the most renowned snowmobiling destinations in the state, this area is a great destination for families who want to enjoy a ride through the fluffy snow in what can only be described as a wintry wonderland.  Check out the Paul Bunyan trail or any of the other groomed trails that are ideal for families.  Night excursions on the lighted Gull Lake Trail are also extraordinary adventures for families who plan to spend several days or a weekend there during the holiday season.

Bemidji Trails

Centrally located in the state's trail system, Bemidji has long been celebrated for its family-friendly trails.  Lead the kids to the headwaters of the Mississippi as well as through historic forests.  The scenic attractions are breathtaking and the snowmobiling is ideal for families who enjoy riding together.  The Buena Vista trail is particularly stunning so be sure to check it out on your next ride there during the holiday break!

Voyageurs National Park Trails

This region is spectacularly beautiful any time of year, but it is especially enchanting while enjoying the view from behind a snowmobile during the holidays.  Riding the trails of this region is a great learning experience for the family.  You'll pass over historic trading routes and witness the pristine wilderness whose beauty is as timeless as it looks.  With plenty of great lodging to be had in the area, this destination has the makings of a great vacation getaway.

Families will enjoy the beautiful winter scenery as they enjoy snowmobiling together.  When you visit these snowmobile areas, their information centers will also have more specific information about scenic or cultural attractions within the trail network.  Be sure to request a map to ensure that you see all the most family-friendly sights.  Additionally, you might want to make sure you keep off more challenging terrain that young riders may not be ready to tackle just yet.  Even so, the family-friendly trails of each region are spectacularly fun for the holiday season and filled with plenty of breathtaking sites.
