by Ahmad Arsad A. Auto blogger,SFI ,Auto Entrepreneur

Langkawi is a small island in Kedah Malaysia. The population here is around 100000 people. Most of them are a fisherman, village people, and retailers. There are 5 famous islands nearby which is:-

1. Pulau Timun

2. Pulau Langgun

3. Pulau Singa Besar

4. Pulau Dayang Bunting

5. Pulau Tuba

6. Pulau Payar

Island hopping is the favorite activity for adventure travelers here.

Snorkeling and diving at Pulau Payar

Beautiful beachfront at Pulau Payar is wonderful for snorkeling and swimming. Taking a boat to Pulau Payar from Kuala Kedah jetty at Langkawi is RM250 per person with food. It is a day's journey for snorkeling and other activities. Barracuda and Semi Precious Antipathes are some of the famous species at Pulau Payar.

For this 2nd visit, my family and I did not have a plan for Island Hopping and so on. It was not in our list. We will visit a few favorite places, enjoying the flora and fauna scenery, as well as food and excitement.

Flight and rent a car booking

'Walking ten thousand miles of the world is better than reading ten thousand scrolls'. I started browsing the best price for this trip somewhere in April last year 2012. At that time we chose Air Asia return ticket. The cost was around RM1200 for 3 adults and one kid under 12 years old.

I have been here once, but, the memories keep refreshing my mind to pay a visit once again. The Air Asia Flight landed us safely at one among the best places to visit in Southeast Asia. The surroundings looked new to me even when I have been here before. Big departures, more seats, and more rent a car booth has become the main attraction here.

There was a Perodua Myvi (One of Malaysia's car owned model) that waited for us exactly in front of departure exit. The car that I booked earlier cost us RM450 for four days. For tourists who come down straight without any booking, they can get any cars here. The cost would be RM100 sedan and RM150 for MPV per day. After thanking him for the nice service that the rent a car had provided. I drove straight to the hotel. Along the short ride, we stopped at a gas station, grabbed some snacks to bite before dinner.

At seven o'clock pm, we reached the Hotel and Resort that we booked earlier. It was a booking for four days three-night journey.

Resort and equipment

There are 150 hotels and resort as accommodations here. Some of them are in Kuah town and the rest is very near to the beach. We chose Twin Peaks Island Resort, which is one kilometer away from. It is easy to get things is the main reason why we stay near the town.

There are 20 traditional wooden Malaysia houses nearby in Kuah district. The room equipped with bathroom, hot water, and air conditioning. Outdoor swimming pool is between two facing blocks. The operational hours are from seven to ten at night. For four family members are RM100 per night including breakfast.

Apart from that, most resort and hotel provides a 24 hours room maintenance upon call plus free WiFi. The quiet and peaceful area is part of the service we may have at traditional wooden house Hotel and Resort.

Enjoying the cable car ride

We started the next day from the Cable car (known also as The Oriental Village). For this choice, we took one and a half hours to reach the cable car. From Jalan Teluk Yu Highway we will pass over Pantai Cenang, Makam Mahsuri, and Ayer Hangat.

Cable Car

Besides Cable Car, The Park also equipped with food stalls and a beautiful garden. Everywhere around the garden looked so wonderful with the breathtaking sight from the hill.

The cost per ride for cable car is RM40 for adult and RM30 for kids.

Convenient Highway

It was a joyful drive in this Island with no traffic hassle at all. The big highway with fewer cars is the convenience infrastructure in Langkawi. Bigger cc cars such as NissanTriton, Toyota Prius, or Mercedes can reach within shorter hours.

Immerse legs at Ayer Hangat

We continued the day one journey from The Oriental Village to Ayer Hangat. It is a small relaxing place to view and feel the natural hot water from many developed well here. We can immerse our legs and hands in the warm water, but not allowed to bathe. This place is well maintained by the Malaysian government and no cost incurs to drop by.

The water heater is 65 degree Celsius like boiling soft eggs with yolk. I had a chance to soak my legs, wash my face, wishing to treat our ailment that we might see might not see.

One hour later we drove away towards Makam Mahsuri one kilometer away from Ayer Hangat.

The historical evidence of Mahsuri

According to Legend history, Mahsuri was a village girl who lived in a small village. She was born in Kampung Ulu Melaka somewhere in the 18th century. Villagers believed that her spell is true in. It was also recorded in Malaysia book of history. There was much historical evidence supporting the story. Her history collections displayed at the Makam near Jalan Ayer Hangat.

The buried history of her attracted many visitors to come over to visit. It was also believed that her spell long lasts for seven generations. Her well, house, grave is in the area as well.

Day One Final destination

We ended the day one journey by visiting the chocolate shops around Pekan Kuah. Idaman Suri and Haji Ismail Group are the famous two chocolate shops in Pekan Kuah. That is not the only specialty visitors can find here. Small markets here sell varieties of Malaysian food, shirts, souvenirs, and handmade crafts. The best food to try here is Laksa (vermicelli soup) and Baulu (hot cake made of flour). We bought a pack of Baulu hot cake for RM10 and drove back home.

After having Laksa for RM5 per plate as our final dish for the day we drove back to the hotel. The second and third journey will be in our next plan the next day.

For me, each day ended with swimming in the pool until nine o'clock at night.

Memories and souvenirs

Galleria Perdana

Galleria Perdana has known also as Jabatan Muzium Malaysia. A museum with full historical collections, artifacts and natural treasure of Malaysia. This has become our first destination of day two. We reached the entrance at the Galleria which has no charge at all for visitors to get in.

During the two hours inside the gallery, I knew that my country had gone through hard times before. A lot of memories lie down in each area of Galleria Perdana waiting for visitors. As for me, I am proud to be a citizen.

Taman Geopark Mangrove Tour,Flora and fauna at Taman Geopark

My family and I spent the last hours at Taman Geopark. From 200 Ringgit Malaysia per ride by boat for five people. We will visit the whole Mangrove wide area. We will cover five islands along the ride. The jungle, surrounding the river is full of flora and fauna. Over the years, this is a must visit destination small adventure park.

We can also see The Eagles flying to each center of the river when hearing the boat sounds. We end the visit with some T-shirt, hat, and handmade craft souvenirs, to bring back home.

Aquatic species at The Underwater World

The last destination was the Underwater World and Gamat Oil. The Gamat Oil shop is a small factory of producing traditional medicine from Gamat extract.

Underwater World

The Underwater World is the largest marine and aquarium in South East Asia. The wide area and plenty of aquariums are the main attractions in this building. There are 4000 aquatic lives inside the cage and aquarium here. Located at Pantai Cenang which is very near to Cenang beach. The ticket cost is RM23 per adult and half for kids under 12.

Penguins are in a bigger aquarium categorized as a Subantarctic section. Another four section is Tropical Rainforest, Temperate, Freshwater, and Marine Life section.

Obor-obor or Jellyfish is part of the main attractions for tourists. Jellyfish is a creature that hardly found in Malaysia.

Gamat oil and Gamat lotion

Gamat also refers as sea cucumber (Holothuroidea). Their habitat is in a deep water under the sea. It is a special ingredient for cosmetic use and also to heal cuts and ulcer, etc.

Gamat is usually dried and powdered and made into a lotion and topical salve. Gamal jelly is for chronic diabetes, epilepsy, herpes, skin disease, and tendon pain as well.

Gamat shop

There is only one shop selling those products. It is a kilometer away from Padang Matsirat Airport. Gamat oil is the popular healing item to grab here. Most of the product, here are well established nationwide. One of the famous use is to heal rashes even for a baby. The cost for all types of the oil is RM 20 and above. After buying some products we left the shops for some coconut drinks nearby.

The story lies down as our memories upon my second visit to Langkawi Island.
