Factors That Affect Liposuction Cost

by Manuel B. Agent Smartlipo

Being overweight is a problem that millions of people across the globe need to deal with on a daily basis. Excess body fat can be caused by a slew of reasons; hence, the rate of weight loss is not the same for everyone. You may have tried multiple diet programs, exercise regimens, a concoction of pills, among others. Nothing seems to work and you end up contemplating liposuction cost.

The truth is that there is no definitive or standard cost because there are several factors that come into play when determining the overall cost of the procedure. Below are the elements that must be taken into consideration in setting a price tag to a well-sculpted body that you’ve always wanted.

Type of Liposuction:

There are different types of liposuction available these days as well as various procedures used - from the traditional wet technique developed and popularized in the 1980's to the cutting-edge techniques such as ultrasound, water jet and laser-assisted liposuction. Obviously, the new ones cost a little more since they require advanced training, certification and equipment.

Volume of Fat to be Removed:

If there is little amount of fat that needs to be removed and the procedure can be done in a single session, then the overall cost will be lesser. On the other hand, large amounts of excess fat from multiple areas will require more sessions to remove and therefore will cost more. This simply means extra time and effort on the part of the surgeon and his /her staff, which will certainly reflect in the cost of the operation.

Area to be Treated:

Obviously, the cost of liposuction will also depend on the specific area requiring treatment. The cost for each part is determined largely by its size and the difficulty in treating that particular part of the body. In general, the abdomen and the breasts tend to be the most costly picks, while the hips, waist, buttocks, and outer thighs tend to be a bit cheaper.

Type of Anesthesia Used:

Although most types of liposuction can be done with local anesthetic, there are patients who prefer to be completely anesthetized (general anesthesia) so they won’t feel anything or remain conscious while the surgeon is removing fat from their bodies. General anesthesia is more expensive so allot extra money for the luxury of unconsciousness during the surgery if you prefer it that way.

Geographic Location:

The cost is likely to be higher in major cities and metropolitan areas as compared to the suburbs. Major hospitals are typically located in key cities and the most popular surgeons tend to practice there since the professional fees are higher. In addition, city hospitals are equipped with some of the most advanced equipments available at any given time.

Credentials of the Surgeon:

This is perhaps one of the most significant factors that influence the cost of liposuction. By credential, we refer to the training, skills and experience of the surgeon. This may also include the certifications he/she received, number of successful surgeries and satisfied clients, etc.  This is certainly not an area where you can’t afford to be thrifty! It is advisable to go with a surgeon with a sterling reputation right from the get go. After all, a botched surgery will cost you more so it is best to get it done right the first time around.

There you go, the cost of liposuction may be daunting to many, but there are surgeons and clinics offering flexible financing schemes to prospective patients so they can finally afford to have the figure that they have long been dreaming of!
