Each fixture in an interior contributes to the appearance of the house. Thus, all the fittings should be selected thoughtfully so that they harmonize with each other. But what is the very first factor that people would notice while they enter the house? Yes, it is the entrance door.

Besides the entrance door, the doors inside the house also play a role in beautifying the interior. Now, you may choose any door available in the market. But the look and longevity of the door should be your primary concern. While considering aesthetics and performance together, a flush door is the best option available today.

What is a flush door?

The main characteristic of a flush door is that the surfaces on both sides are plain. No carvings are done on the surfaces. The flush door is made of a frame made from chemically treated timber and wooden batons are used to prepare the skeleton of the door. A core layer of veneer is attached to the door structure to prevent any kind of undulations on the laminate or veneer face to be used. Finally a layer of laminate veneer is attached to the surface to give the final finishing to the door.

Don't confuse wooden doors with flush doors. Flush Doors are made of chemically treated timber and undergo different processes like moisture treatment, chemical treatment etc. for making them resistant to borer and termite which is a common problem in case of traditional wooden doors.

Types of flush doors

There are three main types of flush doors. These are different in how the cores are made. Let us explore the types:

Solid core- As the name suggests, this flush door core is solid. The core is made up of particleboard or medium-density fiberboard. Stiles and top and bottom rails hold the board in place. Over it, plywood or veneers are attached.

Hollow-core- The inside of this door is hollow. Despite the top and bottom rails, it has an intermediate rail. In between the stiles and rails, vertical wooden battens are fixed. This structure creates voids. Plywood and veneers are glued for the finishing.

Cellular core- In a cellular core door, the voids are smaller than a hollow-core door. The gaps are distributed equally. Rectangular battens are fixed with the stiles. Top and bottom rails are used. This is stronger than hollow-core doors. But the solid core door is the strongest.
