Phase 1: IAS 2016 Syllabus : Preliminary Examination
IAS Preliminary Examination is known as CSAT, Civil Services Aptitude Test aimed at testing the candidate’s analytical and reasoning ability
examinee's ability to tackle analytical and reasoning questions.It is a screening test with multiple choice questions only.
IAS Preliminary Examination is comprised of two papers-

Syllabus for Paper II - Aptitude
Phase 2 : IAS 2016 Syllabus : Main Examination
IAS Main Examination will entirely be a subjective exam aimed at testing the in-depth knowledge of the candidates . Main Examination is comprised of 9 papers with two qualifying papers.
List of the Subjects from which the candidates will be able to choose their optional subjects based on their preference-
Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu and English.
