Ever noticed any kind of vibrations in your vehicle? Imagine a situation where you’re struggling hard to reach your destination and suddenly you notice your vehicle taking sides. You notice that it’s not coming in your control. Such vehicles create a nuisance for others on roads and put drivers in a scenario of some unwanted embarrassment.

When you take your vehicle to some mechanic, he’d probably use a term called wheel alignment to repair your vehicle. It’s this misalignment that causes the vehicle to go awry on the road. Wheel alignment is extremely important for your vehicle and you shouldn’t take it lightly in any manner.

What is wheel alignment?

Wheel alignment Manchester refers to adjusting the suspension system of the car. This is the system that connects the vehicles and the wheels. In this, a mechanic rectifies the angles of the wheels so that they are all set in a straight line. You can do a small check yourself to see if your vehicle is aligned properly. There are various signs through which you can get to know if your wheels are aligned properly.

While driving on the road, take your hands off the steering wheel for a few seconds. If the vehicle keeps moving in its own lane, then it means your wheel alignment is perfect.

How do you know if your vehicle needs a wheel alignment?

·While driving if your vehicle wobbles on the road, then it might be an issue of misalignment in wheels. However, it can also mean that your vehicle has some other parts wearing away or there could be an imbalance in the tyres. You need to take it to some mechanic to know the actual cause.

·If your tyres start wearing down unevenly, then that can be an issue in the alignment. If the weight on the tyres is distributed unevenly, it will cause the tyres to wear down only

·The most common of all is when your car isn’t keeping in a straight line and you really need to make a lot of effort to keep it straight.

What causes misalignment in wheels?

Alignment problems are common to witness. There can be a number of reasons for the same.

·Normal wear and tear parts of the vehicle over a period of time causes misalignment.

·Bad roads with potholes and kerbs can also cause alignment problems.

·If your vehicle has encountered an accident, then alignment issues are bound to happen.

·Sometimes, people raise or lower the suspension to adjust the height of the ride according to their comfort. Wheels need to be aligned after this exercise.

How is the alignment carried out?

Wheel alignment Manchester is done in various ways. Below are some of the procedures used.

·Toe-in/toe-out adjustment

It checks the extent to which the tyres turn in or out when viewed from the front. All the tyres of the car should be angled the same way.

·Caster

This angle is viewed from the side and it’s the angle of the steering axis. In a positive caster, the axis will tilt towards the driver. The negative caster will tilt towards the front of your vehicle.

·Camber

It’s either the inward or the outward angle of the tyre when we view it from the front. If it’s too much inward, it’s called negative camber and if it’s too much outward, it’s called positive camber. The mechanic checks this and adjusts accordingly.

Point to note

Wheel alignment and wheel balancing are two completely different things and shouldn’t be mistaken for each other. Balancing refers to the equal distribution of the weight on the tyres.

Wheel alignment is an important part of car maintenance and shouldn’t be ignored at any cost.
