Everything You Need to Know About Water ATM Machine

Water ATM machines are an automated system of purification and dispensing water, such machines are replacing bottled water and are safe to use. Some of the water ATMs are an advanced versions consisting of pre-treatment, reverse osmosis and a disinfectant system installed inside it, some of them are manual while some of them are coin operated. 

These water ATMs are and easy solution for obtaining pure and safe water especially for those who have to cover larger distances in search of drinking water.

Process of Working

Most of the water ATM’s installed inside the cities that are facing scarcity of water mainly in the poor areas are solar powered. An example of one such water ATM installed in Savada Ghevra in West Delhi itself says its story. 

The work has been undertaken by the Delhi Jal Board, the water ATM is solar powered and have a decentralized drinking water unit that is connected to the main server via cloud computing. The tanker is attached to 500 litre capacity tank whenever the level reaches below 200 litres the tanks get refilled by an automatic message sent to the main server.

These water ATM are installed on the basis of design, build and some operational and transferable features, also the salinity of water in the area is also checked as it affects the RO unit of the vending machine. Some of the plus points the machine are as follows:

  • Water ATM puts a full stop on buying of water, people shall use water judiciously without wasting it.
  • All will get pure and safe drinking water.
  • It is cost effective and also economical for people of all classes.
  • Saves time that people spend standing in queues. 
  • Water dispensing is done on pay per us methodology, there is flexible purchase and price transparency.
  • Gives livelihood to youths, installation of water ATM’s has generated employment and promoted the youth to work as operators on water ATM’S.
  • Last it has put an end to plastic bottles that are greatest hazard to the environment.

Applications of Water ATMs

In 2015, the government of Delhi decided to set up 280 water ATM’s across the city, many cities in India are promoting their application and installation including Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, etc. These machines have been installed in some most of the busiest areas like market places, railway stations, hospitals, etc. 

The government is continuously encouraging private sector projects hoping to bring more transparency and accountability in the said field.
