Everything you need to know about the Mazda MPV

The Mazda MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle) was a four-door (1988-1995) / five-door minivan that was marketed and manufactured from 1988-2016 by Mazda. It has 3 successive generations: 1st generation (1988 to 1999), 2nd generation (1999 to 2006), and 3rd generation (2006 to 2016). Motors and Performance

The Mazda MPV 1989 van allowed large engines and options such as V6 and 4WD. This 1st generation is equipped with three engine options: 2.6L inline 4 SOHC G6 engine producing 92 KW (123 HP) at 4600 rpm as standard, 2.5L inline 4 G5 engine producing 76 KW (102 HP) at 4000 rpm, 3.0L inline 6 SOHC 18-valve JE engine producing 116 KW (155 HP) at 5000 rpm, and the 2.5L inline 4 diesel WL engine producing 92 KW (123 HP) at 4200 rpm. These were paired to a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox.

For the front-wheel drive, Mazda used a 2.5L V6 AJ engine and Mazda’s 2.0L RF MZR turbo diesel. In 2002, Mazda added a 2.3L L3-VE DOHC inline 4 engine producing 122 KW (164 HP) at 6500 rpm with an average fuel economy of 8L/100KM. The L3-VE had a turbo variant that was launched in 1995, the 2.3L Direct Injection Spark Ignition L3-VDT producing 196 KW (263 HP) at 5500 rpm. The engines were mated to a 4 and 6-speed automatic transmission. The MPV offered a great fuel economy of 12.2 km/L.


Interior and Exterior

The MPV was upgraded in 2008 giving the MPV a new appearance that makes it appealing to the customers. It also includes automatic sliding doors, keyless entry, mid-row captain seats, a revised dashboard, radio controls on the steering wheel, cup holders, and gear shift at the bottom of the entertainment screen.
